Thin-layer chromatography (TLC) is a widespread technique because it allows fast, simple, and inexpensive analyte separations. In addition, direct analysis of the compounds separated on TLC plates via mass spectrometry (MS) has been shown to provide high sensitivity and selectivity while avoiding time-consuming sample extraction protocols. Here, direct desorption low-temperature plasma-mass spectrometry (LTP-MS) as well as diode laser assisted desorption (LD) LTP-MS are studied for direct spatially resolved analysis of compounds from TLC plates. Qualitative and quantitative characterization of amino acids, pharmaceuticals, and structural isomers were performed. The nature of the TLC plate stationary phase was found to have a significant influence, together with the analyte's characteristics, on the desorption efficiency. Tandem MS is shown to greatly improve the limits of detection (LODs). Direct desorption LTP-MS, without external thermal assisted desorption, demonstrates its best performance with cellulose TLC plates (LODs, 0.01 ng/mm to 2.55 ng/mm) and restricted performance with normal-phase (NP) TLC plates (several analytes without observable signal). LD LTP-MS, with systematic optimization of irradiance and focal point diameter, is shown to overcome the direct-desorption limitations and reach significantly improved LODs with NP TLC plates (up to ×1000 better). In addition, a wide-ranging characterization of amino acid analytical figures of merit with LD LTP-MS shows that LODs from 84 pg/mm down to 0.3 pg/mm are achieved on NP TLC plates.

Although chlorpromazine is primarily used in psychiatry, it has been shown since its introduction to influence the course of neoplastic diseases. According to the strategy of drug repurposing, chlorpromazine has been successfully tested for its potential antitumor effects on multiple cancer cell lines. This effect is consistent with the overlap of molecular pathways observed for years between schizophrenia and cancer.

CdTe QD-doped MIP-based TLC combined with a miniaturized fluorimeter system (namely the system) was developed to simultaneously detect malachite green (4-[(4-(dimethylamino)phenyl)(phenyl)methyl]-N,N-dimethylbenzenaminium chloride, MG) and crystal violet (4-(Bis{4-(dimethylamino)phenyl}methylidene)-N,N-dimethylcyclohexa-2,5-dien-1-iminium chloride, CV). The system integrated CdTe quantum dots-based molecularly imprinted polymers nanoparticles (CdTe-MIP/SiO NPs) with thin layer chromatography (TLC) plates. Firstly, CdTe-MIP/SiO NPs were synthesized by forming an imprinted layer on silica nanoparticle surfaces through a simple one-pot reaction.

The detection of aliphatic and aromatic biogenic amines (BAs) is important in food spoilage, environmental monitoring, and disease diagnosis and treatment. Existing fluorescent probes predominantly detect aliphatic BAs with single signal variation and low sensitivity, impairing the adaptability of discriminative sensing platforms. Herein, we present a visual chemosensor (galactose-functionalized pyrrolopyrrole -BODIPY, ) that simultaneously detects eight aliphatic and aromatic BAs in a real-time and intuitive way based on their unique electronic and structural features.

The combination of chlorzoxazone and ibuprofen provides an effective therapeutic option for relieving pain and inflammation associated with rheumatoid arthritis, sprains, ankylosing spondylitis, and pain after surgical procedures. Given its widespread use globally, it is crucial to develop a straightforward method for determination of this combination in real human plasma. This study focuses on the salting-out liquid-liquid extraction technique, an emerging approach for extracting drugs from biological matrices.
