Article Abstract

The DOF (DNA binding with one finger) family of plant-specific transcription factors (TF) was first identified in maize in 1995. Since then, DOF proteins have been shown to be present in the whole plant kingdom, including the unicellular alga . The DOF TF family is characterised by a highly conserved DNA binding domain (DOF domain), consisting of a CXC-X-CXC motif, which is able to form a zinc finger structure. Early in the study of DOF proteins, their relevance for seed biology became clear. Indeed, the PROLAMIN BINDING FACTOR (PBF), one of the first DOF proteins characterised, controls the endosperm-specific expression of the zein genes in maize. Subsequently, several DOF proteins from both monocots and dicots have been shown to be primarily involved in seed development, dormancy and germination, as well as in seedling development and other light-mediated processes. In the last two decades, the molecular network underlying these processes have been outlined, and the main molecular players and their interactions have been identified. In this review, we will focus on the DOF TFs involved in these molecular networks, and on their interaction with other proteins.

SP3 and DEP1 Orchestrate Panicle Architecture by Jointly Regulating APO2 Expression in Rice.

National Key Laboratory of Crop Genetic Improvement, Hubei Hongshan Laboratory, Huazhong Agricultural University, Wuhan, 430070, China.

Panicle architecture is largely determined by meristem activity. This previous study shows that DNA binding with one finger (Dof) transcription factor Short Panicle 3 (SP3) regulates panicle architecture. However, the molecular mechanisms of SP3 controlling panicle architecture remain largely unknown.

Introduction: is a multi-purpose medicinal orchid that grows on the edge of high-altitude cliffs. The content of water-soluble polysaccharides (WSPs), which primarily play a pharmacological role, is the main criterion for evaluating the quality of orchid. Therefore, it is necessary to study the regulatory manner involved in the accumulation of WSPs.

Late-spring frost events severely damage low-chill peach blossoms, causing significant yield losses. Although 5-aminolevulinic acid (ALA) enhances cold tolerance through the PpC3H37-PpWRKY18 module, the regulatory mechanism of ALA on remains to be elucidated. Using yeast one-hybrid screening with the promoter as bait, we identified PpDof9 as a key interacting transcription factor.

Background: The DNA-binding with one finger (Dof) gene is a classical plant transcription factor with specific conserved structural domains, which plays an important role in the regulation of plant metabolism, root development, and stress defense mechanisms. In recent years, drought has severely jeopardized the growth and development of crops and is one of the main environmental factors limiting plant growth and reducing crop yields. Whether Dof family genes play a role in mulberry drought resistance is largely unknown.
