Background: Standardized spontaneous breathing trial (SBT) techniques for patients with heart failure (HF) are lacking.
Objectives: To compare the efficacy of low-level pressure-supported ventilation (PSV) and T-piece SBT techniques in patients with HF.
Methods: This single-center, prospective, open-label, randomized controlled study enrolled mechanically ventilated adults with stage B HF (Nov 2022-Apr 2024).

Legumes form symbioses with nitrogen-fixing bacteria, well studied metabolically but less so in terms of respiration. Symbiotic nitrogen fixation demands high respiratory ATP and carbon skeletons, linking nitrogen assimilation and both NADH- and ATP-dependent process to mitochondrial respiration. The plant mitochondrial electron transport chain contains two terminal oxidases that differentially fractionate against O, providing estimations in vivo of the energy efficiency of respiration.

Background: Timely extubation is essential in ICU patients, yet traditional predictors such as the rapid shallow breathing index (RSBI) have limited accuracy. Diaphragm and lung ultrasound offer promising, non-invasive alternatives for assessing extubation readiness.
Methods: We conducted a prospective observational study nested within a randomized trial in a university ICU.

Objective: To determine whether high-flow nasal oxygen therapy (HFNOT) induces changes in esophageal pressure, a surrogate for intrathoracic pressure, and to evaluate the associated cardiovascular and respiratory effects in healthy dogs.
Methods: A prospective, randomized study was conducted in 6 healthy Beagles. Anesthesia was induced and maintained using alfaxalone total IV anesthesia.

Assessment of sympathetic transduction into its effects on the cardiovascular system is of great interest in human research. Analysis of sympathetic transduction has been divided into neurovascular and neurohemodynamic, highlighting the sympathetic effect on either regional vascular or systemic pressure responses. This study investigates whether indices of neurovascular transduction are reflected in parallel neurohemodynamic transduction during normoxia and hypoxia, with and without accounting for the confounds of prevailing tachypnea and tachycardia.
