Article Abstract

Gold nanostars coated with a mesoporous silica shell and functionalized with poly(ethylene glycol) containing photolabile 2-nitrobenzyl moieties are able to release doxorubicin after NIR light irradiation at low power irradiance via a multiphoton absorption photo-dissociation process.

Computer simulations play an essential role in the interpretation of experimental multiphoton absorption spectra. In addition, models derived from theory allow for the establishment of "structure-property" relationships. This work contributes to these efforts and presents the results of an analysis of two- and three-photon absorptions for a set comprising 450 conjugated molecules performed at the CAM-B3LYP/aug-cc-pVDZ level.

Regulating the electronic structure by doping can promote photoluminescence emission of low-dimensional metal halides for developing white-light-emitting devices. Here, 0D metal halides RbBiCl have achieved a transition from nonluminescence to effective self-trapped excitons (STEs) emission after Sb ion doping at room temperature. The femtosecond transient absorption spectrum reveals the nonradiative recombination was suppressed, whose lifetimes change from 93.

Colloidal semiconductor quantum dots (QDs) can generate multiple excitons (MXs) within a single QD. Owing to their large absorption cross-section, efficient utilization of MX is anticipated for the development of light-harvesting systems. However, MXs typically undergo nonradiative decay via Auger recombination (AR).

Chiroptical switches exhibit stimuli-induced changes in the sign or strength of their circular dichroism (CD) or circularly polarized luminescence (CPL) and are materials with significant potential for chiroptical sensing and biological imaging. However, the chromophores used in chiroptical materials usually require excitation by ultraviolet or visible light, which results in higher cytotoxicity and lower penetration compared to near-infrared (NIR) photoexcitation. This can be overcome by multiphoton excitation, yet multiphoton CPL (MP-CPL) has been challenging to measure in organic emitters.

The extraction and analysis of intact proteins from complex biological samples via femtosecond laser ablation are influenced by wavelength-dependent multiphoton and avalanche ionization processes. To investigate these effects, an intact protein mixture with molecular weights ranging from 9 kDa to 68 kDa as well as individual proteins were sampled using laser wavelengths spanning from the ultraviolet to the near-infrared. Our results suggest that visible and infrared wavelengths enable intact protein extraction, even for proteins with strong absorption in the visible spectrum.
