Ammonia-oxidizing archaea (AOA) are widely distributed on the earth and play a significant role in the global nitrogen cycle. Although dozens of AOA strains were obtained in the last 13 years, it is still necessary to obtain more AOA strains for the entire exploration of their ecology, physiology, and underlying biochemistry in different environments. In this study, we designed a two-step strategy for the rapid enrichment of -like AOA from soils. Firstly, combination of kanamycin and ampicillin was chosen as the selective stress for bacteria and quartz sands were used as the attachment of AOA cells during the first step cultivation; only after 40-75 days cultivation, AOA enrichments with abundance >20% were obtained. Secondly, combination of ciprofloxacin and azithromycin was chosen as the selective stress for the following cultivation; it is able to penetrate the biofilms and kill the bacterial cells inside the aggregate, contributing to the AOA enrichments reached high abundances (90%) only after one-time cultivation. Basing on this strategy, three AOA strains were obtained from agricultural soils only after 90-150 days cultivation. Phylogenetic analysis suggested these AOA belong to the soil group I.1b and are closely related to the genus . In general, AOA enrichment or isolation is very difficult and time-consuming (an average of 2-3 years). Here, we provide a new strategy for the rapid enrichment of high abundance of -like AOA from soil, which gives a new solution to the AOA enrichment and cultivation in a short period.

Histone arginine methylation by protein arginine methyltransferases (PRMTs) is crucial for transcriptional regulation and is implicated in cancers. Despite their therapeutic potential, some PRMTs present challenges as drug targets due to their context-dependent activities. Here, we demonstrate that hypoxia triggers the rapid condensation of PRMT2, which is essential for its histone H3R8 asymmetric dimethylation (H3R8me2a) activity.

[2,1]-Azaboranaphthalenes represent unique boron-nitrogen (BN) isosteres of naphthalenes, attracting interest for the development of molecules with enhanced therapeutic potency. The existing synthetic strategies are generally two-component reactions with harsh conditions. Here we report an organocatalysed three-component modular synthesis of ring-fused BN isosteres and BN-2,1-azaboranaphthalenes following ring expansion of unstrained cyclic ketones (n = 4-8) via Wolff-type rearrangement.

Severe pneumonia, as a critical and prevalent condition of the respiratory system, poses a significant threat to patient survival and health outcomes. This article focuses on the similarities and differences between community-acquired pneumonia (CAP) and hospital-acquired pneumonia (HAP)/ventilator-associated pneumonia (VAP). There is significant divergence in the predominant pathogens between severe community-acquired pneumonia (SCAP) and HAP/VAP.

Background: Direct admission can help reduce emergency department crowding, improve patient satisfaction, and decrease costs, yet there is opportunity to improve standardized processes to do so safely and efficiently. We designed and implemented a new process for urgent direct admission (UDA) at our children's hospital with the SMART (specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, time-bound) aim to increase the number of UDAs between transfer to an intensive care unit (ICU) within 12 hours from direct admission by 50% in 12 months.
Methods: We compared unanticipated ICU transfers within 12 hours of admission (outcome) before and after implementing a standardized UDA process.

Severe fever with thrombocytopaenia syndrome virus (SFTSV) was identified by the World Health Organization as a priority pathogen due to its high case-fatality rate in humans and rapid spread. It is maintained in nature through three transmission pathways: systemic, non-systemic and transovarial. Understanding the relative contributions of these transmission pathways is crucial for developing evidence-informed public health interventions to reduce its spillover risks to humans.
