Article Abstract

Electrocardiographic algorithms are particularly useful to differentiate, in the presence of a wide complex tachycardia, between supraventricular aberrancy and ventricular tachycardias (VT). There are numerous limitations to the sensitivity and specificity of these algorithms including the presence of accessory pathways, use of antiarrhythmic drugs, congenital heart diseases, electrolytes impairments, and artificial pacing. Once the diagnosis of VT has been reached, other algorithms can help in localizing the origin of the ventricular arrhythmia. These approaches are also limited by the anatomic structure of where the arrhythmia originates. This article illustrates the difficulties in applying common algorithms in many clinical circumstances.

De novo assembled nuclear, chloroplast and mitochondrial genomes show high intraspecific variation in the tropical rainforest species Symphonia globulifera.

Symphonia globulifera (Clusiaceae) has emerged as a model organism in tropical forest ecology and evolution due to its significant ecological role and complex biogeographical history. Originating from Africa, this species has independently colonized Caribbean, Central and South America three times, becoming a key component of tropical ecosystems across these regions. Despite the ecological importance of S.

Wide-necked anterior communicating artery (ACoA) aneurysms pose challenges for endovascular coiling due to the risk of coil protrusion. This case report describes a new endovascular technique for managing ruptured wide-necked ACoA aneurysms, addressing the risk of coil protrusion during embolization. This method employs a combined microcatheter and guidewire-assisted embolization method, enabling coil deployment without needing adjunctive devices such as stents or balloons.

Approach to Evaluating Reorganization Energies of Interfacial Electrochemical Reactions.

Reaction rate coefficients for electron-transfer processes at the electrode-electrolyte interface are commonly estimated by using the Butler-Volmer equation, but their values are inaccurate beyond a few tenths of volts of overpotential. The Marcus-Hush-Chidsey (MHC) formalism yields correct asymptotic behavior of the rate coefficients vs applied overpotential but has complex dependencies on the redox system's intrinsic parameters, which can be difficult to model or measure. In this work, we bridge the two kinetics formalisms to estimate the reorganization energy, one of the important parameters for the MHC formalism, and investigate its dependence on other intrinsic parameters such as activation barriers, electronic coupling strength, and the density of states of the electrode surface.

infection and antibiotic prescribing at a regional hospital in Australia: a case-control study.

Antimicrob Steward Healthc Epidemiol

September 2025

National Centre for Epidemiology and Population Health, Australian National University, Canberra, ACT, Australia.

Background: infections (CDI) increased at a large, regional hospital in New South Wales, Australia, in 2021, coinciding with an increase at hospitals Australia wide. We aimed to investigate the association between antibiotic prescribing practices and hospital-acquired CDI at the hospital to inform antimicrobial stewardship (AMS) programs.

Methods: We conducted a retrospective case-control study for the period July 1, 2018, and June 30, 2022.

The crystallization behavior of ionic liquids (ILs) 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium [BMIM] hexafluorophosphate [PF] and chloride [Cl] is investigated upon confinement in 2.3 or 8.2 nm diameter silica nanopore arrays, along with the effects of covalently modifying the pore walls with 1-(3-trimethoxysilylpropyl)3-methylimidazolium [TMS-MIM] groups.
