Although intravascular ultrasound (IVUS) is the commonest intravascular imaging modality, it still is inefficient for clinical use as it requires laborious manual analysis. This study demonstrates the feasibility of a near real-time fully automated technology for accurate identification, detection, and quantification of luminal borders in intravascular images. This technology uses a combination of the novel approaches of a self-tuning engine, dynamic and static masking systems, radar-wise scan, and contour correction cycle method. The performance of the computer algorithm developed based on this technology was tested on a sequence of IVUS and True Vessel Characterization (TVC) images obtained from the left anterior descending (LAD) artery of 6 patients with coronary artery disease. The accuracy of the algorithm was evaluated by comparing luminal borders traced manually with those detected automatically. The processing time of the developed algorithm was also tested on a Dell laptop with an Intel Core i7-8750H Processor (4.1 GHz with 6 cores, 9 MB Cache). Linear regression and Bland-Altman analyses indicated high correlation between manual and automatic tracings (Y = 0.80 × X+1.70, R = 0.88 & 0.67 ± 1.31 (bias±SD)). Whereas analysis of 2000 IVUS images using one CPU core with a 30% load took 23.12 min, the same analysis using six CPU cores with 90% load took 1.0 min. The performance, accuracy, and speed of the presented state-of-the-art technology demonstrates its capacity for use in clinical settings.

"Avian species differ in their environments and lifestyles, including domestic, marine, wild, and carnivorous types. Each bird's unique diet influences the kidney to carry out distinct and specialized functions. This study aims to explore and compare the anatomical, histological, and histochemical features of the kidneys in aquatic birds with varying feeding behaviors: the Northern Shoveler (Spatula clypeata) and Green-winged Teal (Anas crecca) from the Anatidae family, and the Pied Kingfisher (Ceryle rudis) from the Alcedinidae family.

The kidney is the main osmoregulatory organ in terrestrial vertebrates and depends on water conservation for survival. Only birds, among vertebrates other than mammals, can concentrate their urine as an adaptation to live in terrestrial environments. The water inflow of collecting duct epithelial cells is controlled by aquaporin 2 (AQP2) and an arginine vasotocin (AVT)-sensitive water channel expressed along cortical and medullary collecting ducts.

Background: The relative contribution of common carotid artery (CCA) intimal medial thickness (IMT), carotid bifurcation plaque presence, and its burden in predicting cardiovascular disease (CVD) events in a primary prevention clinical cohort remain unclear.
Aims: To assess the usefulness of distal far wall of right and left CCA IMT assessment (in the absence of carotid bifurcation plaque) and plaque presence and plaque number on incident CVD in a primary prevention clinical setting.
Methods: Observational study of consecutive 1,903 patients free of known CVD clinically referred for right and left carotid bifurcation two-dimensional ultrasound for subclinical atherosclerosis assessment between 2007 and 2014 at a single center.

The study was prepared to explain the morphological features of the biliary duct system, gall bladder, duodenal papilla, extrahepatic ducts, and pancreatic ducts of the white Pekin Duck (Anas platyrhynchos) using gross, casting, ultrastructural, and histochemical techniques. The gall bladder in the liver's cystic fossa is not visible from the right lobe's parietal surface. Bile is drained from the liver via the intrahepatic bile duct, with one main duct in the left lobe branched into two secondary ducts and three hepatic ducts in the right lobe.

We report on a 3-year and 5-month-old boy who was referred for suspected rickets, due to knee valgus deformity developed over the previous year. The child had a history of epilepsy well-controlled with phenobarbital. His psychomotor development and growth metrics were appropriate for his age.
