The original intention for building a tissue-engineered heart valve (TEHV) was to simulate a normal heart valve and overcome the insufficiency of the commonly used heart valve replacement in the clinic. The endothelialization of the TEHV is very important as the endothelialized TEHV can decrease platelet adhesion and delay the valvular calcification decline process. In this work, we encapsulated vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) into polycaprolactone (PCL) nanoparticles. Then, through the Michael addition reaction, PCL nanoparticles were introduced onto the decellularized aortic valve to prepare a hybrid valve. The encapsulation efficiency of the PCL nanoparticles for VEGF was up to 82%, and the in vitro accumulated release rate was slow without an evident initial burst release. In addition, the hybrid valve had a decreased hemolysis ratio and possessed antiplatelet adhesion capacity, and it was able to promote the adhesion and proliferation of endothelial cells, covering the surface with a dense cell layer to accelerate endothelialization. An experiment involving the subcutaneous implant in SD rats showed that at week 8, lots of blood capillaries were formed in the hybrid valve. Mechanics performance testing indicated that the mechanical property of the hybrid valve was partly improved. Taken together, we applied a nano-drug controlled release system to fabricate TEHV, and provide an approach for the biofunctionalization of the TEHV scaffold for accelerating endothelialization.

Multiplexed fluid control is a demanding task in various studies in life sciences and bioengineering. Herein, we present open-source microfluidic sequence automation (MiSA) that offers flexible and multiplexed fluid control for various applications, providing constant flow pressure-based feedback control with 10-plex capability and pulsed flow on the order of 100 ms. MiSA was self-contained, including a pressure source, and employed an Arduino Micro to integrate ten solenoid valves, an off-the-shelf pressure regulator, and a flow sensor to balance cost and reliability.

Purpose: To explore the feasibility of transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) planning computed tomography (CT) on single-source 8-cm detector scanners with proper dose control by using two deep-learning reconstruction algorithms.
Methods: Reduced-dose TAVI planning CT was simulated by replacing routine aortic CT angiography (CTA) with a reduced-dose aortic CTA and a reduced-dose coronary CTA (Group A, n = 82), while keeping the total dose unchanged. Each of the two CTA scans was processed with a different deep-learning reconstruction algorithm.

Unlabelled: An 83-year-old male patient presented to our hospital with complaints of chest pain, shortness of breath, and leg swelling. His medical history included a biological mitral valve replacement (MVR) for mitral stenosis 9 years ago and percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) to the circumflex (CX) and diagonal arteries 5 years ago. Echocardiography and coronary angiography (CAG) revealed moderate mitral valve stenosis, left atrial thrombus, and critical stenosis in the left main coronary artery (LMCA) and CX artery.

This article presents a systematic review of mixed reality (MR)-based tools in orthopaedics, motivated by their growing clinical relevance and the lack of existing reviews that comprehensively assess both clinical outcomes and technical implementations. A literature search was conducted in October 2024, covering Scopus, IEEE, PubMed, Web of Science, Medline in EBSCO, ClinicalTrials.gov, and WHO International Clinical Trials Registry Platform databases, yielding 48 eligible studies.
