Unlabelled: To identify factors that regulate gut microbiota density and the impact of varied microbiota density on health, we assayed this fundamental ecosystem property in fecal samples across mammals, human disease, and therapeutic interventions. Physiologic features of the host (carrying capacity) and the fitness of the gut microbiota shape microbiota density. Therapeutic manipulation of microbiota density in mice altered host metabolic and immune homeostasis. In humans, gut microbiota density was reduced in Crohn's disease, ulcerative colitis, and ileal pouch-anal anastomosis. The gut microbiota in recurrent infection had lower density and reduced fitness that were restored by fecal microbiota transplantation. Understanding the interplay between microbiota and disease in terms of microbiota density, host carrying capacity, and microbiota fitness provide new insights into microbiome structure and microbiome targeted therapeutics.

It is unknown how human health is affected by the current increased consumption of ultra-processed plant-based meat analogues (PBMA). In the present study, rats were fed an experimental diet based on pork or a commercial PBMA, matched for protein, fat, and carbohydrate content for three weeks. Rats on the PBMA diet exhibited metabolic changes indicative of lower protein digestibility and/or dietary amino acid imbalance, alongside increased mesenteric (+38%) and retroperitoneal (+20%) fat depositions despite lower food and energy intake.

Background: Maternal dietary intervention utilizing complex additives rich in β-carotene has demonstrated the capacity to enhance embryonic intestinal development and influence microbial composition in offspring. Nevertheless, the extended impact of maternal β-carotene inclusion on the intestinal health of post-hatching chicks is still not fully elucidated.
Objective: This research aimed to evaluate the impacts of maternal β-carotene supplementation on the intestinal development and microbial communities in chicks after hatching.

Background: Obesity and the consumption of ultra-processed foods (UPF) are associated with gut microbiota composition and diversity, which may contribute to alterations in the regulation of hormones involved in satiety, given the gut microbiota's role in regulating host appetite. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate the association of gut microbiota composition and alpha-diversity at the genus-level on postprandial changes in satiety hormones, and appetitive measures in individuals with obesity, given either a meal rich in UPF or a meal without UPF.
Methods: Individuals were randomized to two groups: a) a non-UPF meal and b) a UPF meal.

To investigate the most effective feeding level for red-tail catfish () raised in land-based circular tanks and the impact of feeding levels on at the molecular and omics levels, we conducted a 56-day experiment using the fish fries (16.49 ± 0.44 g).
