Article Abstract

Patients who present with non-ischemic dilated cardiomyopathy (NIDCM) and enhancement on late gadolinium magnetic resonance imaging (LGE-CMR), are at high risk of sudden cardiac death (SCD). Further risk stratification of these patients based on LGE-CMR may be improved through better understanding of fibrosis microstructure. Our aim is to examine variations in fibrosis microstructure based on LGE imaging, and quantify the effect on reentry inducibility and mechanism. Furthermore, we examine the relationship between transmural activation time differences and reentry. 2D Computational models were created from a single short axis LGE-CMR image, with 401 variations in fibrosis type (interstitial, replacement) and density, as well as presence or absence of reduced conductivity (RC). Transmural activation times (TAT) were measured, as well as reentry incidence and mechanism. Reentries were inducible above specific density thresholds (0.8, 0.6 for interstitial, replacement fibrosis). RC reduced these thresholds (0.3, 0.4 for interstitial, replacement fibrosis) and increased reentry incidence (48 no RC vs. 133 with RC). Reentries were classified as rotor, micro-reentry, or macro-reentry and depended on fibrosis micro-structure. Differences in TAT at coupling intervals 210 and 500ms predicted reentry in the models (sensitivity 89%, specificity 93%). A sensitivity analysis of TAT and reentry incidence showed that these quantities were robust to small changes in the pacing location. Computational models of fibrosis micro-structure underlying areas of LGE in NIDCM provide insight into the mechanisms and inducibility of reentry, and their dependence upon the type and density of fibrosis. Transmural activation times, measured at the central extent of the scar, can potentially differentiate microstructures which support reentry.

Objectives: Early diagnosis and timely treatment of renal fibrosis can improve the prognosis of patients with nephropathy. We aim to investigate the utility of multi-parametric MRI for evaluating early renal fibrosis and therapeutic efficacy in a rat model.

Methods: Eighty-four male SD rats receiving tail vein injection of adriamycin doxorubicin (ADR) to establish renal fibrosis models were utilized.

The incidence of sporadic early onset colorectal cancer (EO CRC, under 50 years of age) is rising rapidly, yet the causes behind such rise remain poorly understood. Epidemiological studies indicate that lifestyle and environmental exposures may result in chronic inflammation, which is known to trigger tissue fibrosis. We hypothesized that fibrotic remodeling and biomechanical stiffening of colorectal tissues represent hallmarks and drivers of EO CRC.

Zhejiang Key Laboratory of Coastal Biological Germplasm Resources Conservation and Utilization, Zhejiang Mariculture Research Institute, Wenzhou 325005, China. Electronic address:

Soil salinization is an increasingly critical global issue for which fishery-based utilization has emerged as a promising mitigation strategy. Penaeus vannamei is an ideal species for aquaculture in saline-alkali waters; however, the differences in alkali tolerance among various families and their underlying mechanisms remain largely unexplored. In this study, alkali-tolerant families were identified through median lethal time (LT) assays under high alkalinity and elevated pH.

Optical coherence tomography (OCT) has emerged as a transformative diagnostic tool in the realm of uncertain biliary strictures within the digestive system. Its superiority over conventional methods lies in its ability to provide submucosal assessments and real-time, wide-ranging tissue evaluations. The latest advancement in OCT technology, exemplified by the NVision Volumetric Laser Endomicroscopy (VLE) system, has significantly enhanced imaging quality and microstructure delineation, particularly in characterizing the intricate anatomy of pancreaticobiliary ducts.

Background: This monocentric, cross-sectional study explored the use of diffusion kurtosis imaging (DKI) as a non-invasive means to diagnose and monitor diabetic nephropathy (DN).

Methods: Patients with diabetes mellitus (DM, n = 11), mild DN (N = 14), and severe DN (n = 29) were recruited. Eight DKI metrics (MK, MD, Da, Dr, Ka, Kr, FA, FAk) were determined from the imaging results, and their correlations with routine laboratory results were analyzed.
