Over the last decade, Matsumura, an invasive pest of soft-skinned fruits, gradually established itself in Europe, often resulting in significant economic losses. In 2011, when was first described for Germany, the Julius Kühn Institut (JKI) started a monitoring program in southwest Germany to study the occurrence and activity of the fly. Capture data from late 2011⁻early 2018 from 100 traps were analyzed for the effect of weather and immediate habitat on trap captures at different times of the year. We identified five phases in the annual population development cycle of . We found that the mild winter of 2013/2014 helped the thorough establishment of in Germany. Habitat types in the immediate vicinity of the trap and local weather conditions had a strong influence on trap captures. Forest borders and hedges were found to provide adequate overwintering shelter for the flies. Trap captures in forests and hedges were generally higher than those of vineyards and orchards, even during the fruiting seasons. Summer capture rates were correlated with the number of heat days and precipitation. We also discuss briefly the limitations of using trap captures as representative of fly density in the field.

In fluid catalytic cracking (FCC) processes, vanadium is a primary harmful feedstock contaminant that deactivates catalysts by forming vanadate species which corrode the zeolite framework and damage catalyst structure. Introducing vanadium capture agents is an effective way to enhance the catalytic performance, but the mechanism of the interaction has not yet been fully understood. This study demonstrates that lanthanum-based additives significantly improve vanadium resistance in FCC catalysts.

Activity-based ubiquitin probes (Ub-ABPs) are powerful tools for studying the functional landscape of deubiquitinases (DUBs). While most existing Ub probes have focused on examining the native state of DUBs, oxidative stress, especially in cancer and inflammatory contexts, can oxidize the catalytic cysteine of DUBs, significantly altering their activity. The harvest of animals from the wild is a pervasive selective force, especially in fisheries, where harvesting often targets individuals with specific traits. While most research has focused on large-scale commercial or recreational fisheries, little attention has been paid to artisanal fisheries, particularly those targeting ornamental species. Furthermore, environmental factors such as temperature and oxygen levels influence the behaviour of fishes, such as boldness and sociability, but their role in the harvesting process remains poorly understood.
