Introduction: Sarcopenia is a pathologic condition frequent in aged population, leading to functional and cognitive impairment. Given the ageing of the population worldwide, the topic has generated interest in the last decades and is expected to be more relevant in the near future. This paper aims to present the mechanism of sarcopenia, the current state of knowledge regarding diagnosis and treatment and the role of sarcopenia in orthopaedic and traumatological settings.

Left-sided partial anomalous pulmonary venous return (PAPVR) may remain clinically silent and undiagnosed until incidentally identified, potentially introducing complexity in perioperative assessment and management, particularly in patients with significant comorbidities. We report the case of a 77-year-old male with metastatic colorectal adenocarcinoma and a history of multiple right-sided pulmonary metastasectomies. He underwent a right completion upper bilobectomy.

Background: A typical echocardiographic longitudinal strain (LS) pattern of the left ventricle called strain reversus (SR) has been described in patients with constrictive pericarditis (CP). The aim of this study was to evaluate the prevalence of SR among pericardial diseases, its diagnostic role in CP, and its correlation with pericardial involvement assessed using cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR).
Methods: Eighty-five patients (mean age, 57 ± 17 years; 32.

Unlabelled: Bleeding and thromboembolic events (BTE) increase the mortality of COVID-19 acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) treated with extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO). The current analysis aimed to assess frequency and determinants of BTE according to their location and severity in a retrospective analysis of the German ECMO COVID-19 registry. Logistic regression was applied to identify factors influencing ICU survival as well as variables associated with risks of BTE.

Significant advances in science and engineering often emerge at the intersections of disciplines. Nanoscience and nanotechnology are inherently interdisciplinary, uniting researchers from chemistry, physics, biology, medicine, materials science, and engineering. This convergence has fostered novel ways of thinking and enabled the development of materials, tools, and technologies that have transformed both basic and applied research, as well as how we address critical societal challenges.
