A novel medium-current (up to 20 mA), low normalized beam emittance (<1 π mm mrad) electron cyclotron resonance microwave H+ ion source has been developed at the Center for Energy Research in Budapest, Hungary. This high-stability design targets an energy ripple below 1% while delivering a continuous or pulsed proton beam with adjustable pulse duration (0.1-10 ms) and frequency (0.

Capacitive deionization (CDI) is a crucial technique for industries managing liquid chemical waste, requiring efficient electrode materials to ensure optimal performance. This study presents a novel undergraduate experimental teaching framework that integrates the understanding, development, and practical application of porous biochar-based CDI systems. Designed to support both students and educators, the curriculum guides learners through the synthesis of biochar electrodes via biomass pyrolysis and the assembly of CDI devices for treating phosphogypsum wastewater.

Boosting biocompatibility and minimizing inflammation in electrospun polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) cardiac patches through optimized low-pressure plasma treatment.

Tailoring surface characteristics is key to guiding scaffold interaction with the biological environment, promoting successful biointegration while minimizing immune responses and inflammation. In cardiac tissue engineering, polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) is a material of choice for its intrinsic piezoelectric properties, which can be enhanced through electrospinning, also enabling the fabrication of nanofibrous structures mimicking native tissue. However, the inherent hydrophobicity of PVDF can hinder its integration with biological tissues.

Dual-Mode Hybrid Discharge Plasma-Activated Injectable Hydrosol for Enhanced Immunotherapeutic Cancer Therapy.

Although cold atmospheric plasma is a promising therapeutic technique for tumor immunotherapy via reactive oxygen and nitrogen species (RONS), the challenges associated with the generation and delivery of these RONS hamper clinical adoption. Herein, a dual-mode hybrid discharge plasma-activated sodium alginate hydrosols (PAH) is proposed to enhance the antitumor immune response. Gaseous highly reactive RONS are generated by dual-mode hybrid plasma produced by mixed O and NO modes, which are converted into aqueous RONS in PAH via gas-liquid reactions between plasma and hydrosols.

Background: We sought to investigate the association between circulating inflammatory and cardiovascular proteomics biomarkers and cardiac autonomic nervous dysfunction-sensitive heart rate variability indices.

Methods: Using the population-based KORA (Cooperative Health Research in the Region of Augsburg) cohort, 233 proteomics biomarkers were quantified in baseline plasma samples of 1389 individuals using proximity extension assay technology. Five heart rate variability indices (Rényi entropy of the histogram with order [α] 4, total power of the density spectra, SD of word sequence, SD of the short-term normal-to-normal interval variability, compression entropy) were assessed at baseline in 982 individuals and in 407 individuals at baseline and at 14-year follow-up.
