Objectives:: The purpose of this study was to describe and compare the main imagenological features of mandibular ameloblastomas and odontogenic keratocyst (OKC) using panoramic radiograph (PR) and CT.
Methods:: The sample consisted of nine cases of ameloblastomas and nine cases of OKC. PR and CT images were analyzed according to shape, internal structure, borders, associated unerupted tooth, root resorption, expansion and perforation of cortical bones.
Results:: PR evaluation allowed the identification of the lesion's location, presence of sclerosis in the periphery, presence of associated non-erupted tooth and expansion of the mandible's lower border cortical bone. CT was more accurate than PR in the assessment of the lesion shape, presence of inner bone septa, root resorption, buccolingual expansion and rupture of cortical bone. Most cases of ameloblastoma and OKC presented buccolingual expansion and erosion of cortical bone. Only ameloblastomas showed tooth root resorption.
Conclusions:: Although PR is very helpful and widely used, CT provides more precise information on buccolingual expansion, calcification, bone septa, perforation of cortical bones and tooth resorption, features that are frequently underdescribed in the literature, particularly in OKC.

This study applied Raman spectroscopy (RS) to ex vivo human cadaveric femoral mid-diaphysis cortical bone specimens ( = 118 donors; age range 21-101 years) to predict fracture toughness properties via machine learning (ML) models. Spectral features, together with demographic variables (age, sex) and structural parameters (cortical porosity, volumetric bone mineral density), were fed into support vector regression (SVR), extreme tree regression (ETR), extreme gradient boosting (XGB), and ensemble models to predict fracture-toughness metrics such as crack-initiation toughness (K) and energy-to-fracture (J-integral). Feature selection was based on Raman-derived mineral and organic matrix parameters, such as νPhosphate (PO)/CH-wag, νPO/Amide I, and others, to capture the complex composition of bone.

Introduction: Benign adrenal tumours are frequently seen in endocrinology, affecting mostly men in middle aged. But incidentalomas are more common in the elderly. Functional adrenal tumours most commonly secrete cortisol, aldosterone and very rarely, oestrogen.

Breast, prostate and lung cancer cells frequently metastasize to bone, leading to disruption of the bone microstructure. This study utilized mechanical testing with micro-CT imaging, digital volume correlation (DVC), and atomic force microscopy (AFM) nanomechanical testing to examine the mechanical property variations in mouse long bones (tibia) with metastatic lung cancer cell involvement, spanning from the whole-bone scale to the microstructural level. In addition, we also investigated how metastatic invasion alters the morphology of hydroxyapatite nanocrystals in bone at the nanometer scale.

Age-related deterioration in bone strength among Western humans has been linked with sedentary lifestyles, but the effect remains debatable. We evaluated aging of diaphyseal strength and cortical bone loss in a European Holocene sample of 1881 adult humeri, femora, and tibiae. Diaphyseal aging did not differ between Early and Late Holocene adults, despite their differences in physical activity.

Objective: Multiple studies have demonstrated an increased risk of lower extremity injuries for females in frontal crashes. This study aimed to investigate whether sex-based anatomical differences, as measured on computed tomography (CT) scans of the abdomen and pelvis, contribute to lower extremity injury risk.
Methods: The Crash Injury Research and Engineering Network (CIREN) database (2017-2023) was queried for frontal collisions.
