This study aimed to compare the usage of Western medicine and traditional Korean medicine for treating joint disorders in Korea. Data of claims from all medical institutions with billing statements filed to HIRA from 2011 to 2014 for the four most frequent joint disorders were used for the analysis. Data from a total of 1,100,018 patients who received medical services from 2011 to 2014 were analyzed. Descriptive statistics are presented as type of care and hospital type. All statistical analyses were performed using IBM SPSS for Windows version 21. Of the 1,100,018 patients with joint disorders, 456,642 (41.5%) were males and 643,376 (58.5%) were females. Per diem costs of hospitalization in Western medicine clinics and traditional Korean medicine clinics were approximately 160,000 KRW and 50,000 KRW, respectively. Among costs associated with Western medicine, physiotherapy cost had the largest proportion (28.78%). Among costs associated with traditional Korean medicine, procedural costs and treatment accounted for more than 70%, followed by doctors' fees (21.54%). There were distinct differences in patterns of medical care use and cost of joint disorders at the national level in Korea. This study is expected to contribute to management decisions for musculoskeletal disease involving joint disorders.

Objective: This study systematically reviewed the effect of intra-articular injection (IAI) of platelet-rich fibrin (i-PRF), alone or combined with arthrocentesis or arthroscopy, in managing painful articular temporomandibular disorders (TMD) and improving maximum mouth opening (MMO).
Materials And Methods: A systematic literature search was conducted in five databases, identifying randomized and nonrandomized clinical trials focusing on minimally invasive TMJ interventions using i-PRF. Meta-analyses were performed with a random-effects model for studies reporting similar outcomes, visual analog scale (VAS) scores for pain, and MMO values.

Identifying early predictors of language development is essential for understanding how infants acquire vocabulary during the first years of life. While previous studies have established the importance of infant-directed speech (IDS) and neural speech processing, this longitudinal study introduces a novel approach by combining EEG-based functional connectivity analysis and machine learning to assess the joint contribution of maternal and infant neural factors to language outcomes. Data were collected at birth and nine months, including maternal personality and speech characteristics, alongside infant EEG responses during speech processing.

Introduction: Aberrant biomechanical force-induced chondrocyte adipogenesis is involved in the development of temporomandibular joint osteoarthritis (TMJ OA). Growth differentiation factor 11 (GDF11) has been implicated in this process. However, whether mechanosensitive histone deacetylase 3 (HDAC3) regulates GDF11 signaling in the context of TMJ OA remains to be elucidated.

Vagus nerve stimulation (VNS) has gained significant attention as a therapy for various medical conditions due to its ability to modulate chronic diseases, pain, and inflammation. VNS delivered by an implanted device is FDA approved for severe epilepsy and refractory depression. VNS delivered with implantable devices or transcutaneous methods are now being studied in several musculoskeletal diseases including osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, systemic lupus erythematosus, and fibromyalgia.

Enteric fever, caused by the human-restricted bacteria Salmonella enterica serovar Typhi (typhoid) and Salmonella enterica serovar Paratyphi A, B, and C (paratyphoid), affects persons residing in, or travelling from, areas lacking safe water, sanitation, and hygiene infrastructure. Transmission is by the faecal-oral route. A gradual fever onset over 3-7 days with malaise, headache, and myalgia is typical.
