Article Abstract

Changes in protein glycosylation have been reported in various types of cancer, including cholangiocarcinoma (CCA). Nanospray ionization-linear ion trap mass spectrometry (NSI-MS ) was used in the present study to determine the comparative structural glycomics of the -linked glycans in the serum of patients with CCA compared with healthy controls. A total of 5 high-mannose and 4 complex -linked glycans were detected. Mannose-N-acetyl-glucosamine was the most abundant structure among the high-mannose types (control 12.12±2.54 vs. CCA 9.27±2.66%), whereas NeuAc2H2N2M3N2 predominated the complex types (control 61.17±2.55 vs. CCA 64.68±4.23%). The expression of 3 different -glycans differed significantly between the CCA cases and controls. These included mannose-N-acetyl-glucosamine (P=0.044), mannose-N-acetyl-glucosamine (Ρ=0.030) and NeuAc3H3N3M3N2F (Ρ=0.002). These three glycan structures may therefore be associated with tumor progression in CCA and may be useful for its diagnosis.

Background: Acute lung injury (ALI) is a critical clinical condition with high mortality, necessitating the development of more effective therapeutic strategies. Rho Guanine nucleotide dissociation inhibitor (GDP) beta (ARHGDIB) has been shown to exert protective effects against noxious stimuli in various disease models.

Objective: In this study, we investigated whether ARHGDIB knockdown had a protective effect on lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced injury in alveolar epithelial cells and elucidated its underlying molecular mechanisms.

This research explored the effects of ginseng residue oligosaccharides (GRO-N) and ginseng polysaccharides (GP-N) on alleviating allergic rhinitis (AR). In a rat model induced by ovalbumin (OVA), both high doses of GRO-N (GRO-N-H) and GP-N (GP-N-H) significantly decreased the frequency of sneezing and rubbing behaviors in AR-affected rats. Histopathological evaluations and cytokine analyses revealed that GRO-N-H and GP-N-H notably lowered the count of goblet cells and reduced inflammatory cytokine levels in these rats.

Background: Retinol-binding protein 4 (RBP4) is a vitamin A transport protein synthesized in the liver and also plays a crucial role in inflammation and immune regulation. Low serum vitamin A levels have been observed in both pediatric and adult patients with ulcerative colitis (UC). The association between serum vitamin A levels and serum RBP4 levels, as well as the underlying mechanism involved inimpaired vitamin A transport during inflammation in UC patients, has yet to been investigated.

Background: After spinal cord injury (SCI), pro-inflammatory microglia accumulate and impede axonal regeneration. We explored whether secreted protein acidic and rich in cysteine (Sparc) restrains microglial inflammation and fosters neurite outgrowth.

Methods: Mouse microglial BV2 cells were polarized to a pro-inflammatory phenotype with lipopolysaccharides (LPSs).
