Enhancing D retention index accuracy: Correcting D retention time shifts in GC×GC due to modulation timing deviations via line detection technology.

Anal Chim Acta

November 2025

School of Pharmacy, Tongji Medical College, Huazhong University of Science & Technology, #13 Hangkong Road, Wuhan, Hubei, 430030, PR China. Electronic address:

Even small deviations in modulation timing (DMT) can cause discrepancies between the originally set modulation period (P) and the actual P in comprehensive two-dimensional gas chromatography (GC × GC) analysis. This study explored the impact of DMT on the accuracy of the second dimensional retention time (t) and the second dimensional retention index (I) calculations and introduced a line detection technology (LDT) based on the Hough Transform to correct DMT-induced t shifts. The correction was achieved by automatically adjusting candidate P values until the slope of the line(s) (CB_line(s)) formed by column bleeding compound peaks in the isothermal section of the contour plot approached zero, thereby determining the actual P.

Objectives: The aim of this study is to explore the specific application scenarios of quantitative light-induced fluorescence (QLF) in the detection and treatment of early caries, so as to provide more evidence for the clinical application of QLF.

Methods: (1) The accuracy of QLF in detecting the lesion depth of early caries was evaluated by combining transverse microradiography (TMR) and spectrophotometer analysis (n=6). (2) Resin infiltration therapy was used as a representative method for the treatment of early caries to evaluate the ability of QLF in assessing the therapeutic effect on early caries (n=6).

Background: Acute Charcot neuroarthropathy (CN) is a rare but serious complication of diabetes that requires timely diagnosis and evidence-based management to prevent long-term disability. In regional or rural settings, delivering evidence-based care is particularly challenging due to systemic and contextual barriers.

Objective: To explore the perceptions of patients and health professionals about assessment, diagnosis and management of acute CN in a regional Victorian health service.

Exploring the Frontiers of Technology in Forensic Psychiatric Youth Care: Ethical Challenges.

Res Child Adolesc Psychopathol

September 2025

Willem Pompe Instituut Voor Strafrechtswetenschappen, Utrecht University, Utrecht, The Netherlands.

Technologies such as virtual reality, wearables, and mobile apps have the potential to improve forensic psychiatric treatment of youths. Meanwhile, these technological advancements have given rise to new, complex ethical challenges. Paying attention to ethics is especially relevant in forensic psychiatric youth settings because of the often coercive context of treatment and the vulnerable patient population.

Pompe disease (PD), an autosomal recessive lysosomal disorder, results in glycogen accumulation in muscle cells, leading to progressive muscle weakness and respiratory insufficiency. Newborn screening (NBS) has improved outcomes for infantile-onset PD by enabling early diagnosis and intervention with enzyme replacement therapy. NBS also identifies late-onset PD (LOPD) cases, wherein children have a wide clinical spectrum and may remain asymptomatic for years, placing families in uncertainty as "patients-in-waiting.
