Article Abstract

The socket-limb interface is vital for functionality and provides stability and mobility for the amputee. Volume fluctuation can lead to compromised fit and function. Current socket technology does not accommodate for volume fluctuation. An adjustable interface may improve function and comfort by filling this technology gap. The purpose of this study was to compare the effectiveness of the standard of care (SOC) ischial ramus containment to an adjustable transfemoral prosthetic interface socket in the accommodation of volume fluctuation. A prospective experimental case study using repeated measures of subjective and performance outcome measures between socket conditions was employed. In the baseline volume condition, the adjustable socket improved subjective and performance measures 19% to 37% over SOC, whereas the two-minute walk test demonstrated equivalence. In the volume loss condition, the adjustable socket improved all subjective and performance measures 22% to 93%. All aggregated data improved 16% to 50% compared with the SOC. In simulated volume gain, the SOC socket failed, while the subject was able to complete the protocol using the adjustable socket. In this case study, the SOC socket was inferior to the comparative adjustable transfemoral amputation interface in subjective and performance outcomes. There is a lack of clinical trials and evidence comparing socket functional outcomes related to volume fluctuation.

Introduction: Delirium, a common acute brain dysfunction in older adults, features rapid changes in attention, awareness, and thinking that fluctuate. It presents diversely with altered activity levels and sleep. Postoperative delirium (POD), often seen in the postanesthesia care unit, is a temporary mental status change, with hypoactivity being common.

Introduction: Maintaining hemodynamic stability during the perioperative period of major neurosurgical procedures is of paramount importance. A major challenge for anesthesiologists during hemodynamic fluctuations is identifying the underlying cause to guide appropriate therapy. Limited literature is available on the utility of transesophageal echocardiography (TEE) during hemodynamic fluctuations in major neurosurgery.

Data-Driven Flow Control for Natural Gas Pipeline Networks: Optimizing via Anomaly Detection and Residual Weight Coefficients.

ACS Omega

Shandong Provincial Key Laboratory of Oil, Gas and New Energy Storage and Transportation Safety, China University of Petroleum, Qingdao, Shandong 266580, People's Republic of China.

The natural gas pipeline network has a complex topology with variable flow directions, and the supply demand relationships between nodes exhibit cyclical, fluctuating, and time-varying trends. Developing efficient, accurate, and fast intelligent control algorithms is crucial for optimizing the distribution of natural gas networks. Analyzing the operational data from a provincial network over three years revealed that abnormal flow data, such as supply interruptions due to incidents, early fulfillment of supply, and insufficient flow distribution, can cause deviations between the actual transmission volume and the planned transmission volume predicted by the uneven coefficient method.

The integration of Mn in NaMnFe(PO)PO (NMFPP) enhances the energy density but compromises the Na mobility and structural stability due to limited electron hopping and pronounced Jahn-Teller effects. To address this, a structurally compatible anionic substitution strategy is implemented by partially replacing PO with bulkier and less electronegative SiO groups. The reinforced cathode exhibits enhanced rate performance, which is attributed to lattice expansion induced by the larger SiO units, thereby facilitating Na diffusion and reducing impedance during charge-discharge processes, as supported by GITT and DRT analyses.

Multifunctional Dual Carbon Framework for Self-Healing Silicon Anodes.

Department of Physics and Astronomy, Clemson University, Clemson, South Carolina 29634, United States.

Developing next-generation anodes with high silicon (Si) contents requires thoughtful embedment of Si particles in protective media, mainly carbonaceous materials. However, it has been challenging to simultaneously realize optimal electrical conduction, structural integrity, and low-cost synthesis for advancing Si-carbon materials. In this work, we addressed these challenges by synthesizing a composite, where commercial Si nanoparticles are embedded in a dual carbon framework via a facile solution mixing and annealing process.
