Article Abstract

Premature ovarian failure (POF) is characterized by heterogeneous genetic causes such as chromosomal abnormalities and variants in causal genes. Recently, development of techniques made next generation sequencing (NGS) possible to detect genome wide variants including chromosomal abnormalities. Among 37 Korean POF patients, XY karyotype with distal part deletions of Y chromosome, Yp11.32-31 and Yp12 end part, was observed in two patients through NGS. Six deleterious variants in POF genes were also detected which might explain the pathogenesis of POF with abnormalities in the sex chromosomes. Additionally, the two POF patients had no mutation in SRY but three non-synonymous variants were detected in genes regarding sex reversal. These findings suggest candidate causes of POF and sex reversal and show the propriety of NGS to approach the heterogeneous pathogenesis of POF.

Estimation of Brachial-Ankle Pulse Wave Velocity With Hierarchical Regression Model From Wrist Photoplethysmography and Electrocardiographic Signals: Method Design.

JMIR Biomed Eng

August 2025

Cardiovascular Center and Divisions of Cardiology and Hospital Medicine, Department of Internal Medicine, National Taiwan University Hospital, No.7, Chung Shan S Rd, Taipei, 100225, Taiwan, 886 2-2312-3456.

Background: Photoplethysmography (PPG) signals captured by wearable devices can provide vascular age information and support pervasive and long-term monitoring of personal health condition.

Objective: In this study, we aimed to estimate brachial-ankle pulse wave velocity (baPWV) from wrist PPG and electrocardiography (ECG) from smartwatch.

Methods: A total of 914 wrist PPG and ECG sequences and 278 baPWV measurements were collected via the smartwatch from 80 men and 82 women with average age of 63.

Background: Atherosclerosis is a chronic inflammatory disease characterized by the accumulation of lipid-laden foam cells and plaques within the arterial wall. Dysfunctional vascular smooth muscle cells (VSMCs), fibroblasts, endothelial cells, and macrophages contribute to disease progression. Here, we report that macrophage-specific expression of epsins, highly conserved endocytic adaptor proteins involved in clathrin-mediated endocytosis, accelerates atherosclerosis in Western diet-fed mice.

Description of a patient with multiple sclerosis (MS) who underwent immunotherapy with ocrelizumab and suffered a severe course of tick-borne encephalitis (TBE): A 33-year-old man presented with acute cerebellitis with tonsillar herniation. The initial suspected diagnosis of TBE was confirmed after a significant diagnostic delay, likely caused by negative serological testing due to B-cell depletion from ocrelizumab treatment for underlying MS. TBE diagnosis was made using polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and oligo-hybrid capture metagenomic next-generation sequencing (mNGS) of cerebral spinal fluid and brain biopsy samples which yielded a near-full length TBE Virus (TBEV) genome.

Background And Aims: The large genus, Impatiens, is well known to vary excessively, presenting extensive modifications in floral structure among its 1100+ species. Phylogenetic relationships in the genus have historically been difficult to intuit based on morphology, given numerous occurrences of convergent evolution, but they are also difficult to determine based on molecular characters. In this study we focus on resolving the phylogentic relationships within the genus Impatiens, with an emphasis on continental African taxa.

The aim of this study was to propose reference values for the Dynamic Evaluation Method of Lower Limb Joint Alignment (MADAAMI II). During the 2023 Joinville Dance Festival, 346 dancers (315 females and 31 males), aged between 15 and 58 years, with a minimum of 5 years of ballet experience, were randomly evaluated. The dancers were filmed performing the three-step sequence (demi plié, grand plié, and fondu) of the MADAAMI II, in the first foot position, with self-selected turnout and at 120 degrees.
