A one-pot three-component reaction for the regioselective synthesis of thioarylated imidazoheterocycles from aryl halides and elemental sulfur using copper(I) iodide as a catalyst has been developed. Reactions proceed with high efficiency and afford thioarylated imidazoheterocycles in good yields with broad functional group tolerance.

The super bulky sodium phosphanide, NaP(SiPr), was reacted with amidinatotetrylenes LECl (L = PhC(NBu), E = Si, Ge), resulting in the formation of phosphasilene LSi(SiPr) = PSiPr () and phosphanido germylene LGeP(SiPr) (), respectively. Investigation on the reactivity of and toward elemental sulfur was carried out, where a stepwise reaction yielding the silanethione LSi(=S)SiPr () and the silicon thioester analogue LSi(=S)SSiPr () was observed in the case of , while the treatment of with sulfur exclusively afforded the germanium thioester analogue. In addition, the reactions of with Fe(CO) and GeCl·1,4-dioxane led to the germylene-coordinated iron carbonyl and the asymmetric Ge-Ge-bonded complex, respectively, exhibiting the reactivity of the lone pair as well as a weak Ge-P bond.

Precision in controlling the microenvironment of nanospaces is a potent strategy for exploring architecture‒function relationships. Herein, a face-capped tetrahedral cage, featuring Pd‒Pd-bonded vertices, with a tailored nanospace surrounded by 12 ethyl units, was facilitated to adaptively accommodate a library of guests with different sizes and shapes, including C6 cyclic hydrocarbons, adamantane derivatives, S and P. This nanocavity can achieve strong binding with cyclohexane in non-aqueous media in contrast to reported structurally similar non--functionalized cages by an increase of four orders of magnitude.

A detailed understanding of the composition and polymerization mechanism of elemental sulfur remains a decades long unresolved question for modern chemistry. However, the dynamic nature of molten sulfur significantly complicates its accurate characterization. To overcome this challenge, we performed the first comprehensive molecular dynamics (MD) simulations using a ReaxFF reactive force field specifically parameterized to capture the complex ring-opening polymerization dynamics of elemental sulfur.

In this study, copper-modified nanocarbon composites (OMC) were successfully prepared using two-dimensional carbon nanosheets as the material substrate, the low-temperature hydrothermal method as the main process, and copper nitrate as the modifier. The effects of the modifier dosage ratio, hydrothermal temperature, and residence time on the structure and hydrogen sulfide (HS) adsorption performance of OMC were investigated. The results show that the OMC with persistent free radicals and copper oxides prepared under the conditions of a mass ratio of copper nitrate to two-dimensional carbon nanosheets of 2, a hydrothermal temperature of 130 °C, and a time of 8 h, respectively, has the best adsorption performance for HS, with an adsorption sulfur capacity of up to 46.

Iron homeostasis is essential for the virulence of the opportunistic fungal pathogen . The cytosolic monothiol glutaredoxin GrxD was recently shown to play a critical role in iron metabolism via regulation of iron-sulfur (Fe-S) binding iron-responsive transcription factors and interaction with components of the cytosolic Fe-S cluster assembly pathway. Interestingly, the putative copper-binding metallothionein CmtA was also identified as a binding partner for GrxD; however, the metal-binding properties of both proteins and the nature of their interactions were unclear.
