Article Abstract

The effect of cobalt doping on the structural properties of a single graphene film were determined by use of SEM, temperature-dependent Raman technique, XRD and XPS measurements. XRD and SEM measurements revealed that Co nanoparticles formed on the surface of the single layer of graphene. The XPS results also revealed the existence of bivalent Cobalt ions. Raman spectroscopy revealed enhanced disorder effects, and a large red shift in the 2D peak after the Co deposition process. With decreasing temperature of the pristine single graphene film, the G peak stiffened and sharpened. In contrast, the G peak of the graphene film after Co deposition was not dependent on temperature. This phenomenon indicates that the inhomogeneous local disorder effect is induced by the Co atoms embedded in the graphene film. Moreover, a larger disorder effect induced by Co deposition can be found in single graphene films with higher original vacancies, suggesting the possible formation of Co atom-vacancy complexes. The magnetic Co nanoparticles and magnetic Co atom-vacancy complexes in graphene produced in this experiment could be used in graphene-based spintronic device applications.

Bimorph Soft Actuators Based on Isostructural Heterogeneous Janus Films.

ACS Nano

September 2025

State Key Laboratory of Flexible Electronics (LoFE) & Institute of Advanced Materials (IAM), Nanjing University of Posts & Telecommunications, 9 Wenyuan Road, Nanjing 210023, China.

Bimorph soft actuators, traditionally composed of two materials with distinct responses to external stimuli, often face durability challenges due to structural incompatibility. Here, we propose an alternative design employing free-standing, isostructural heterogeneous Janus (IHJ) films that harmonize stability with high actuation efficiency. These IHJ films were fabricated through a vacuum self-assembly process, consisting of TiCT MXene nanosheets and hybrid graphene oxide (GO)-biomass bacterial cellulose (BC), with a well-matched two-dimensional lattice structure.

Electrochemical sensors capable of detecting different types of biomolecules using a single electrode are highly desirable for simplifying analytical platforms and expanding their practical applicability. Herein, we develop a multifunctional electrochemical sensor based on a 3D honeycomb-like porous rGO/PPy-POM composite film for the independent detection of dopamine (DA) and folic acid (FA), two chemically distinct and clinically relevant biomolecules. The electrode is fabricated through a facile, low-cost, and environmentally friendly breath figure method to create a 3D porous reduced graphene oxide (rGO) framework, followed by codeposition of polypyrrole (PPy) and polyoxometalates (POMs).

Molybdenum disulfide (MoS) has recently emerged as a promising material for the development of triboelectric nanogenerators (TENGs) owing to its inherently negative triboelectric properties when paired with polymeric layers, along with its notable transparency and mechanical flexibility. However, MoS-based TENGs operating in the contact-separation mode encounter critical limitations, including mechanical wear and limited triboelectric performance, particularly within the constraints of conventional 2D geometries. This paper reports the novel one-step laser-assisted synthesis of hemispherical MoS through the controlled nucleation and growth of MoS precursor seeds.

Giant and Tunable Optical Nonlinearity via Electrochemical Control of the Tellurium-Electrolyte Interface.

Nano Lett

September 2025

Shaanxi Joint Lab of Graphene, State Key Laboratory of Photon-Technology in Western China Energy, International Collaborative Center on Photoelectric Technology and Nano Functional Materials, Institute of Photonics & Photon-Technology School of Physics Northwest University, Xi'an 710069, China.

The semiconductor-electrolyte interface with strong electrical tunability offers a platform for tuning nonlinear optical (NLO) processes and achieving giant optical nonlinearities. However, such a demonstration and fundamental mechanistic understanding of electrochemically tuned NLO properties have not been reported. Here, we developed an electrochemical Z-scan system to characterize the evolution of NLO responses in tellurium nanorod films under bias voltage.

Side-Chain Poly[2]rotaxane-Toughened Graphene Films.

ACS Macro Lett

Graphene-based films are highly valued for their superior conductivity, thermal stability, and mechanical strength, yet their brittleness and low ductility limit their full potential. Current toughening strategies for graphene-based composites mainly focus on interfacial reinforcement between polymers and graphene substrates. However, research on energy dissipation arising from the intrinsic properties of polymers remains limited.
