Background: Non-invasive brain stimulation (NIBS) facilitates motor improvements post stroke. Transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) and repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) are representative NIBS techniques frequently used in stroke motor rehabilitation. Our primary question is: Do these two techniques improve force production capability in paretic limbs?
Objective: The current systematic review and meta-analysis investigated the effects of tDCS and rTMS on paretic limb force production in stroke survivors.
Methods: Our comprehensive search identified 23 studies that reported changes in force production following tDCS or rTMS interventions. Each used random assignment and a sham control group. The 23 qualified studies in our meta-analysis generated 29 comparisons: 14 tDCS and 15 rTMS comparisons.
Results: Random effects models indicated improvements in paretic limb force after tDCS and rTMS rehabilitation. We found positive effects on force production in the two sets of stimulation protocols: (a) increasing cortical activity in the ipsilesional hemisphere and (b) decreasing cortical activity in the contralesional hemisphere. Moreover, across acute, subacute, and chronic phases, tDCS and rTMS improved force production.
Conclusion: Cumulative meta-analytic results revealed that tDCS and rTMS rehabilitation protocols successfully improved paretic limb force production capabilities.

Background: Pulmonary neuroendocrine cells (PNECs) are specialized airway epithelial cells with dual sensory and secretory functions. They release bioactive mediators --including neuropeptides such as calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP) and gastrin-releasing peptide (GRP), and neurotransmitters such as 5-hydroxytryptamine (5-HT) and γ-aminobutyric acid (GABA) --that regulate airway smooth-muscle tone, mucus production, and immune responses. In chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), these PNEC-derived mediators contribute to airway inflammation, remodeling, and smooth-muscle dysfunction.

Background: Hemorrhage remains the principal cause of death on the battlefield. It is suggested that Tranexamic acid (TXA) can improve survival of severely-bleeding casualties. The intravenous approach is not always available in the pre-hospital setting.

The improper use of chemical pesticides threatens ecosystems and human health, highlighting the need for sustainable alternatives. Nano-pesticides and biological control agents offer a solution, and their combination can reduce pesticide usage and improve pest control efficacy. This study utilized a star polycation (SPc) to prepare a metaflumizone nano-pesticide and combined it with the egg parasitoid (Telenomus remus) for synergistic pest management.

The northern South China Sea (SCS) shelf and southern Taiwan Strait (TS) are dynamic marginal seas influenced by both freshwater discharge from the Pearl River and seasonal coastal upwelling. These interacting hydrological forces shape ecological gradients that affect marine planktonic communities. Planktonic foraminiferal assemblages were analyzed from plankton tow and surface sediment samples collected during three cruises (2018, 2020, and 2022) along a ∼1000 km transect extending from the Pearl River estuary to the southern TS.

The sequential preparation of perovskite solar cells (PSCs) has received widespread concern for its use in large-scale perovskite modules and perovskite/silicon tandem solar cells. However, the instability of the PbI precursor solution and the incomplete reaction of ammonium salts hinder the industrialization of PSCs. Here, by introducing phthalamide (PA) into PbI solution, the carbonyl oxygen of PA molecules undergoes a bidentate coordination reaction with Pb to form an octahedral coordination structure, and the nitrogen atom in the -NH group exhibits weakly acidic properties due to the conjugation effect.
