Article Abstract

Background: International guidelines recommend that patients choose dialysis mode based on their own values and preferences; thus, involvement is needed in dialysis choice. A literature review indicated a lack of knowledge concerning patient involvement in decision-making, especially concerning patients' experiences of the decision-making process just after making the decision and before starting dialysis.

Objectives: To gather information about how patients experienced involvement in the decision-making process of renal substation therapy just after they have made the decision and before starting dialysis.

Methods: A qualitative method with a phenomenological and hermeneutic approach. The study was based on individual semi-structured interviews with nine adult patients with chronic kidney disease. A data-driven analysis based on systematic text condensation was used.

Findings: Patients are a significant part of the decision. Health care professionals contribute to the experience of being involved. Patients keep putting off the final choice.

Conclusion: The patients found themselves involved in the choice of dialysis mode and have different views on what is needed to feel being involved. Information, interaction, and advice from health care professionals affect this experience. However, the experience of not having any symptoms caused patients to put off the final choice of dialysis mode.

Background: Formic acid poisoning is a significant toxicological emergency in India, particularly in rubber-producing states. Despite its corrosive and toxic nature, its unrestricted access contributes to frequent cases of self-harm and accidental exposure. This review synthesizes available evidence on epidemiology, clinical manifestations, management strategies, patient outcomes and forensic insights in details.

Background: An extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) device represents an additional functional body compartment, potentially impacting vancomycin pharmacokinetics.

Objectives: This systematic review aimed to: (1) provide a comprehensive summary of vancomycin population pharmacokinetics (Pop-PK) in critically ill patients receiving ECMO and; (2) associate the findings with clinical practices and dosing recommendations.

Methods: PubMed, Embase and Google Scholar databases were searched for vancomycin non-linear mixed-effects modelling Pop-PK studies in ECMO patients (inception-May 2024).

Aims: This study aims to address the clinical need for managing secondary hyperparathyroidism (SHPT) in chronic kidney disease (CKD) patients on dialysis and hypercalcemia in individuals with parathyroid carcinoma or primary hyperparathyroidism (PHPT) ineligible for parathyroidectomy. Cinacalcet, a key calcimimetic agent, targets the calcium-sensing receptor (CaSR) in the parathyroid gland to lower elevated parathyroid hormone (PTH) levels. The study focuses on developing a robust high-performance liquid chromatography tandem mass spectrometry method for cinacalcet quantification to support therapeutic monitoring and pharmacokinetics.

Background: The number of cancer survivors that develop kidney failure is increasing. However, there is a lack of evidence supporting clinicians offering kidney transplant or dialysis when facing a kidney failure patient with a previous cancer history.

Methods: This retrospective observational cohort study was conducted using the Inner Mongolia Regional Health Information Platform.

Importance: Falls are commonly reported incidents that affect the safety of patients during inpatient hospitalization. Inpatient rehabilitation (IR) units report the highest fall rates when compared with other hospital units. Falls commonly result in patient injury and elevate episode costs.
