Rationally designed polypeptides with similar molecular structures but varying patterns of hydrogen bonding between the side groups have been synthesized and demonstrated to possess distinct solubility and thermal behaviors. Further balancing the ratio of both isopropylamine and ethylenediamine side groups endows the random copolymer with reversible thermo-sensitivity.

Thermo-responsive hydrogels (thermogels), known for their sol-gel transition capabilities, have garnered significant interest for biomedical applications over recent decades. However, conventional thermogels are hindered by intrinsic physicochemical and functional limitations that impede their broader utility. This study introduces methacryl glycol chitosan (MGC) as a novel thermogel, offering enhanced functionality and addressing these limitations.

The increasing demand for advanced biomaterials in nerve tissue engineering presents numerous challenges due to the complexity of nerve tissues and the need for materials that can accurately replicate their intricate structure and function. In response, this study introduces a novel injectable hydrogel that is thermosensitive, self-healing, and conductive, offering promising potential for heart and nerve tissue engineering applications. The hydrogel is based on collagen and hyaluronic acid functionalized with 3-aminopropyl-triethoxysilane (APTES)-grafted oxidized bacterial cellulose and gold nanoparticles (~50 nm).

Open globe injuries (OGIs) demand immediate attention to prevent further complications and improve vision prognosis. Herein, we developed a thermo/photo dual-crosslinking injectable hydrogel, HBC_m_Arg, for rapidly sealing OGIs in emergency ophthalmic cases. HBC_m_Arg was prepared with arginine and methacrylic anhydride modified hydroxybutyl chitosan (HBC).

Herbal hydrogels as a new class of sustainable functional materials have attracted extensive attention. However, the development of herbal hydrogels is significantly hindered due to their poor hydrogel performances and the lack of universal preparation methods. In this study, four herbal hydrogels composed of phytochemical polyphenols and stevioside compounds are prepared through a facile heating-cooling process, where multiple hydrogen bonding interactions between two monomers provide the main driving force for gelation.

The present works describes the Passerini modification of carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC) by using a library of nine α-substituted ketones derivatives, differing in their hydrophobicity and reactivity, conjointly with cyclohexyl isocyanide. The Passerini ligation, achieved in aqueous and mild conditions, was shown to be successful, leading to a large panel of dually functionalized CMC derivatives, in an eco-friendly manner. A particular attention was dedicated to the influence of the experimental parameters such as the stoichiometry, the nature of a co-solvent or the temperature, which allowed to tune the extent of modification.
