Article Abstract

We have synthesized and structurally characterized a new doubly chloro bridged dimeric copper(II) complex, [Cu2(μ-Cl)2(HL)2Cl2] (1) based on a Schiff base ligand, 5-[(pyridin-2-ylmethylene)-amino]-pentan-1-ol). Single crystal X-ray diffraction shows the presence of dinuclear copper(II) centres in a square pyramidal geometry linked by obtuse double chloro bridge. The magnetic study illustrated that weak antiferromagnetic interactions (J = -0.47 cm(-1)) prevail in complex 1 which is well supported by magneto-structural correlation. This compound adds to the library of doubly chloro bridged copper(ii) complexes in the regime of spin state cross over. DFT calculations have been conducted within a broken-symmetry (BS) framework to investigate the exchange interaction further which depicts that the approximate spin projection technique yields the best corroboration of the experimental J value. Spin density plots show the presence of an ∼0.52e charge residing on the copper atom along with a substantial charge on bridging and peripheral chlorine atoms. The potential of complex1 to act as an anticancer agent is thoroughly examined on a series of liver cancer cell lines and screening shows the HepG2 cell line exhibits maximum cytotoxicity by phosphatidyl serine exposure in the outer cell membrane associated with ROS generation and mitochondrial depolarization with increasing time in the in vitro model system.

Reaction between equimolar amounts of 3,3,3',3'-tetraethyl-1,1'-(furan-2,5-dicarbonyl)bis(thiourea) () and CuCl·2HO in methanol in the presence of the supporting base EtN gave rise to a neutral dinuclear complex bis-[μ-3,3,3',3'-tetraethyl-1,1'-(furan-2,5-dicarbonyl)bis(thioureato)]dicopper(II) di-chloro-methane disolvate, [Cu(CHNOS)]·2CHCl or [Cu()]·2CHCl. The aroylbis(thio-ureas) are doubly deprotonated and the resulting anions { } bond to metal ions through (,)-chelating moieties. The copper atoms adopt a virtually -square-planar environment.

The coordination chemistry of 2-pyridyl ketoximes continues to attract the interest of many inorganic chemistry groups around the world for a variety of reasons. Cadmium(II) complexes of such ligands have provided models of solvent extraction of this toxic metal ion from aqueous environments using 2-pyridyl ketoxime extractants. Di-2-pyridyl ketone oxime (dpkoxH) is a unique member of this family of ligands because its substituent on the oxime carbon bears another potential donor site, i.

With the aim of obtaining improved molecular scaffolds for F binding to use in PET imaging, gallium(III) and iron(III) complexes with a macrocyclic -phosphinate chelator have been synthesized and their properties, including their fluoride binding ability, investigated. Reaction of Bn-tacn (1-benzyl-1,4,7-triazacyclononane) with paraformaldehyde and PhP(OR) (R = Me or Et) in refluxing THF, followed by acid hydrolysis, yields the macrocyclic (phosphinic acid) derivative, H(Bn-NODP) (1-benzyl-4,7-phenylphosphinic acid-1,4,7-triazacyclononane), which is isolated as its protonated form, H(Bn-NODP)·2HCl·4HO, at low pH (HCl), its disodium salt, Na(Bn-NODP)·5HO at pH 12 (NaOH), or the neutral H(Bn-NODP) under mildly basic conditions (EtN). A crystal structure of H(Bn-NODP)·2HCl·HO confirmed the ligand's identity.

Single crystals of bis(1,2-diaminepropane) di-μ-chloro-bis[diaquadichloromanganate(II)] dichloride have been prepared by evaporation from ethanoic solution. The triclinic X-ray crystal structure is built as layers of centrosymmetric dimers of [Mn(Cl)(HO)] octahedra and 1,2-diaminopropane. The inorganic part consists of Mn octahedra sharing one edge and distributed in the basal ac plane along the a direction.

We report a facile synthesis of diindeno-fused dibenzo[a,h]anthracene derivatives (DIDBA-2Cl, DIDBA-2Ph, and DIDBA-2H) with different degrees of non-planarity using three substituents (chloro, phenyl, and hydrogen) of various sizes. The planarization of their cores, as evidenced by the decreased end-to-end torsional angles, was confirmed by X-ray crystallography. Their enhanced energy gaps with twisting were investigated by a combination of spectroscopic and electrochemical methods with density functional theory, which showed a transition from singlet open-shell to closed-shell configuration.
