Background: Seed of Shismus arabicus, a desert annual, display a seasonal tolerance to dehydration. The occurrence of a metabolic seasonal rhythm and its relation with the fluctuations in seed dehydration tolerance was investigated.
Results: Dry seeds metabolism was the least affected by the season, while the metabolism of germinated and dehydrated seeds exhibit distinct seasonal patterns. Negative associations exist between amino acids, sugars and TCA cycle intermediates and seed survival, while positive relations exist with seed germination. In contrast, associations between the level of secondary metabolites identified in the dehydrated seeds and survival percentage were evenly distributed in positive and negative values, suggesting a functional role of these metabolites in the establishment of seed dehydration tolerance.
Conclusion: Our results indicate the occurrence of metabolic biorhythms in germinating and dehydrating seeds associated with seasonal changes in germination and, more pronouncedly, in seed dehydration tolerance. Increased biosynthesis of protective compounds (polyphenols) in dehydrating seeds during the winter season at the expenses of central metabolites likely contributes to the respective enhanced dehydration tolerance monitored.

Universal Stress Proteins (USPs) are widely distributed across various organisms and play a crucial role in survival under stress conditions. As environmental stresses become more severe, understanding the role of USPs in developing stress-resistant plants has gained increasing importance. In this study, we identified 231 USP-coding genes in the genomes of Brassica napus (BnUSP1-BnUSP115), B.

Waterfowl semen cryopreservation technology is a key link in genetic resource conservation and artificial breeding, but poultry spermatozoa, due to their unique morphology and biochemical properties, are prone to oxidative stress during freezing, resulting in a significant decrease in vitality. In this study, we first used four different freezing procedures (P1-P4) to freeze duck semen and compared their effects on duck sperm quality. Then, the changes in antioxidant indexes in semen were monitored.

Introduction: Acute kidney injury (AKI) remains one of the complications of severe malaria. Evidence on associated factors and outcomes for patients with complicated malaria and AKI is limited in Rwanda.
Aim: To assess the factors associated with acute kidney injury and outcomes in patients with malaria in a district hospital in Rwanda.

Early light-induced proteins (ELIPs) are pivotal for plant stress adaptation, yet their evolutionary and functional diversification across land plants remain unclear. Here, 454 ELIPs genes from 15 species (chlorophytes to angiosperms) were analysed using phylogenomics, cis-regulatory element mapping, transcriptomics, and transgenic validation. Phylogenetics classified ELIPs into four groups: Group 1 exclusive to non-seed plants (e.

The RasGAP SH3 domain binding protein (G3BP) is a highly conserved family of proteins in eukaryotic organisms that coordinates signal transduction and post-transcriptional gene regulation and functions in the formation of stress granules. G3BPs have important roles in abiotic/biotic stresses in mammals, and recent research suggests that they have similar functions in higher plants. contains many important oilseeds, vegetables, and ornamental plants, but there are no reports on the family in species.
