Objectives: The aim of this study was to evaluate the altered brain structure and functional connectivity (FC) among subjects with Internet gaming disorder (IGD).
Methods: We recruited 30 males with IGD and 30 controls and evaluated their gray matter density (GMD) and FC using resting fMRI. The severities of IGD, gaming urge, and impulsivity were also assessed.
Results: The results demonstrated that the subjects with IGD had a higher impulsivity and a greater severity of IGD. The subjects with IGD had a lower GMD over the bilateral amygdala than the controls. Further, the subjects with IGD had lower FC with the left amygdala over the left dorsolateral prefrontal lobe (DLPFC) and with the right amygdala over the left DLPFC and orbital frontal lobe (OFL). They also had higher FC with the bilateral amygdala over the contralateral insula than the controls. The FC between the left amygdala and DLPFC was negatively correlated with impulsivity. The FC of the right amygdala to the left DLPFC and orbital frontal lobe was also negatively correlated with impulsivity. Our results indicated that the altered GMD over the amygdala might represent vulnerability to IGD, such as impulsivity. Further analysis of the amygdala demonstrated impaired FC to the frontal lobe, which represents impulsivity.
Conclusion: The results of this study suggested that the amygdala plays a very influential role in the mechanism of IGD. Its detailed role should be further evaluated in future study and should be considered in the treatment of IGD.

Background: Internet gaming disorder (IGD) is a clinically heterogeneous condition, yet the underlying neurobiological subtypes remain to be elucidated. Investigating the sub-patterns of spontaneous neural activity and the state switching from individual to group patterns may provide deeper insights into the etiology of IGD.
Methods: Resting-state functional MRI data were collected from 519 participants (257 with IGD; 262 recreational game users, RGU).

Micro-ribonucleic acids (miRNAs) are key post-transcriptional regulators of the immune system and may play a role in Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD). In this paper, we constructed subject-specific miRNA-mRNA regulatory networks using bulk and deconvoluted whole blood RNA-sequencing, whole blood miRNA-sequencing, and B-cell receptor-sequencing data from up to 570 miRNAs, 11,859 mRNAs, and 3,190 participants in the COPDGene study. Analysis of whole blood networks revealed two subnetworks of miRNA-mRNA interactions significantly (FDR<0.

Background: Our open-label, multicenter, randomized, phase 3 trial showed that the incidence and severity of chronic graft-versus-host disease (cGVHD) reduced in steroid-resistant acute graft-versus-host disease (aGVHD) patients who underwent mesenchymal stromal cells (MSCs) treatments, but survival benefit was not received. Here, we present a post-hoc analysis of the 5-year follow-up to explore long-term survival and its underlying mechanism.
Methods: This long-term follow-up trial included steroid-resistant aGVHD patients, who were randomly assigned (1:1) to receive MSCs (MSC group) (1 × 10 cells/kg once weekly for 4 consecutive weeks, 8 doses at most) or without MSCs treatment (control group).

Background: Previous studies on resting-state functional connectivity (FC) in internet gaming disorder (IGD) have typically assumed that FC is static during the entire scan, neglecting the dynamic reorganization of brain networks. However, understanding the dynamic changes in functional networks is crucial for a comprehensive understanding of IGD, a complex and evolving disorder.
Methods: Resting-state fMRI data were collected from 269 participants (132 IGD subjects, male/female: 72/60, and 137 recreational game users (RGUs), male/female: 85/52).
Continuous exposure to (Pf) has been associated with alterations in B cells. We investigated the effect of controlled human malaria infection (CHMI) on B cell phenotypes in individuals with different Pf immunity status: malaria-naïve, immunized with PfSPZ-CVac and semi-immune (lifelong-exposed) volunteers. Compared to naïve, semi-immune but not vaccinated individuals, had increased baseline frequencies of immature B cells (CD19CD10), active naive (IgDCD27CD21) B cells, active atypical (IgDCD27CD21) memory B cells (MBCs), active classical (IgDCD27CD21) MBCs and CD1c-B cells but lower frequencies of some IgG-B cells.
