Article Abstract

CdS nanoflake arrays (NFAs) exhibit unprecedented light absorption capability, and they can serve as a scaffold to load thin organic absorbers for extraordinarily high light absorption. As a result, the hybrid solar cell consisting of NFAs and organic absorber yields a ten-times high short-circuit photocurrent compared to the counterpart device with a common planar structure.

Type-II heterostructure semiconductors are very attractive for optoelectronics, environmental and energy-related applications. In this report, the heterostructure (Hs) semiconductor nanocrystalline CdS-ZnO was grown by a cost-effective chemical precipitation method and study of photocatalytic performance from the view of type-II semiconductor heterostructure. The array of nano flake (NF)-particle (NP) morphology of the Hs was observed from FESEM images.

Energy scarcity and environmental pollution have prompted research in hydrogen generation from solar to develop clean energy through highly efficient, effective, and long-lasting photocatalytic systems. Designing a catalyst with robust stability and an effective carrier separation rate was achieved through heterostructure assembly, but certain functionalities must be explored. In this paper we designed a ternary heterostructure assembly of CdS nanospheres wrapped with hierarchical shell walls of layered MXene-tagged MoS nanoflakes, forming intimate interfaces through an in-situ growth process.

Article Synopsis
  • A ratiometric fluorescence hydrogel nanosensor was created using a composite of OPD, manganese dioxide nanoflakes, and N-doped carbon dots embedded in agarose hydrogel to detect sulfite levels.
  • The manganese dioxide nanoflakes acted as an oxidase mimetic, converting OPD into a fluorescent compound while quenching the fluorescence of N-doped carbon dots through FRET (Fluorescence Resonance Energy Transfer).
  • When sulfite was present, the oxidase-like activity was inhibited, leading to a measurable change in fluorescence that allowed for a detection range from 3 nM to 400 μM, making this sensor a practical and cost-effective option for monitoring food safety with smartphone compatibility.

Doping conventional materials with a second element is an exciting strategy for enhancing catalytic performance via electronic structure modifications. Herein, Mn-doped CdS thin films were successfully synthesized with the aid of the chemical bath deposition (CBD) by varying the pH value (8, 10, and 12) and the surfactant amount (20, 40, 60 mg). Different morphologies like nano-cubes, nanoflakes, nano-worms, and nanosheets were obtained under different deposition conditions.

The synthesis and design of low-cost visible-light-active catalysts for the photodegradation of organic dyes have been regarded as an efficient way to use solar energy in addressing environmental issues. We report the fabrication of MoS/CdS nanoparticles functionalized with BiS nanoflakes. The ternary composites of "MoS/CdS/BiS" were synthesized in situ by a hydrothermal method at different temperatures.
