Hydroxyapatite (HAP), a well-known member of the calcium phosphate family, is the major inorganic component of bones and teeth in vertebrates. The highly ordered arrays of HAP structures are of great significance for hard tissue repair and for understanding the formation mechanisms of bones and teeth. However, the synthesis of highly ordered HAP structure arrays remains a great challenge. In this work, inspired by the ordered structure of tooth enamel, we have successfully synthesized three-dimensional bulk materials with large sizes (millimeter scale) that are made of highly ordered arrays of ultralong HAP microtubes (HOAUHMs) by solvothermal transformation of calcium oleate precursor. The core-shell-structured oblate sphere consists of a core that is composed of HAP nanorods and a shell that consists of highly ordered HAP microtube arrays. The prepared HOAUHMs are large: 6.0 mm in diameter and up to 1.4 mm in thickness. With increasing solvothermal reaction time, the HOAUHMs grow larger; the microtubes become more uniform and more ordered. This work provides a new synthetic method for synthesizing highly ordered arrays of uniform HAP ultralong microtubes that are promising for biomedical applications.

In recent years, social media (SoMe) has revolutionized medical education within the field of pathology; however, its performance in cytopathology has not been explored in detail. This systematic review aims to analyze SoMe trends, hashtag metrics, and online resources within cytopathology over the period of 7 years. A systematic review of 4 databases (PubMed, Medline, Embase, and Scopus) was conducted between January 1st, 2017, and December 22nd, 2022, in order to identify relevant English-language articles about SoMe and cytopathology.

Tungsten disulfide (WS), a two-dimensional adsorbent material, has garnered great attention in removing lead ions (Pb) from water due to their extensive exposed adsorption sites. However, WS nanosheets inevitably agglomerated and stacked during the preparation and adsorption process, leading to reduced adsorption efficiency. Current method of enhancing WS dispersion is mainly blending with synthetic polymers, but these synthetic polymers themselves do not possess adsorption properties, resulting adsorption effect enhancement poorly.

This study presents a straightforward and rapid method for preparing graphene aerogel by integrating a sodium alginate (SA)-metal ion crosslinking system, a bubble template, and an osmotic dehydration process. Graphene oxide (GO) nanosheets were dispersed into the solution crosslinked by SA and metal ions, leading to rapid gelation of GO under ambient conditions. To minimize structural damage to the porous network caused by water molecules during the drying process, an osmotic dehydration technique was employed as an auxiliary drying method.

This study demonstrates the successful fabrication of nanostructured Langmuir-Blodgett (LB) films combining the conjugated copolymer poly(9,9-dioctylfluorene--3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene) (PDOF--PEDOT) with spherical and triangular silver nanoparticles (AgNP). The LB technique allowed precise control over the molecular arrangement and distribution of the nanoparticles at the air-water interface, resulting in compact, reproducible and structurally ordered nanocomposite films. The structural and morphological properties of the interfacial monolayers and LB films were investigated using surface pressure-area isotherms, Brewster angle microscopy, polarization modulation infrared reflection-absorption spectroscopy (PM-IRRAS) and quartz crystal microbalance.

Macrophages are professional phagocytes that play a major role in engulfing and eliminating invading pathogens. Some intracellular pathogens, such as Salmonella enterica serovar Typhimurium, exploit macrophages as niches for their replication, which requires precise and dynamic modulation of bacterial gene expression in order to resist the hostile intracellular environment. Here, we present a comprehensive analysis of the global transcriptome of S.
