In the presence of a novel, tert-butyl-substituted squaramide-based catalyst, enolizable anhydrides react with alkylidene oxindoles to generate spirooxindole products of significant synthetic interest with excellent enantio- and diastereocontrol. The methodology is of wide scope and encompasses both homophthalic and glutaconic anhydride derivatives, which lead to structurally diverse products. Glutaconic acid-derived anhydrides undergo a clean post-cyclization decarboxylation process which is not a feature of reactions involving homophthalic acid-derived anhydrides. The unusual influence of reaction temperature on diastereocontrol has been probed, with reactions occurring at 30 °C and -30 °C delivering products epimeric at one stereocenter only, in near optical purity.

In this work, green composites have been developed and characterized using a bio-based polymeric matrix such as BioPBSA and the introduction of 30 wt.% short hemp fibers as a natural reinforcement to obtain materials with maximum environmental efficiency. In order to increase the interfacial adhesion between the matrix and the fiber to obtain better properties in the composites, a reactive extrusion process has been carried out.

Diglycidyl ether of bisphenol A (DGEBA) is a kind of widely used epoxy resin, but its thermosets normally show high brittleness and poor impact resistance due to the intrinsic rigid aromatic rings, which limit its application greatly. To avoid this drawback, we proposed a method to prepare a series of hyperbranched epoxies (HBEPs) with different molecular weights. After HBEPs were cured with methyl tetrahydrophthalic anhydride (MTHPA), characterizations were carried out to evaluate the properties of the cured HBEP samples.

We report the preparation of potassium acyltrifluoroborates (KATs) from widely available carboxylic acids. Mixed anhydrides of carboxylic acids were prepared using isobutyl chloroformate and transformed to the corresponding KATs using a commercial copper catalyst, B (pin) , and aqueous KHF . This method allows for the facile preparation of aliphatic, aromatic, and amino acid-derived KATs and is compatible with a variety of functional groups including alkenes, esters, halides, nitriles, and protected amines.
