Article Abstract

A 74-year-old woman was diagnosed with advanced rectal cancer and stenosis. To resolve the rectal stenosis, we successfully placed an expandable metallic stent across the stenosis. After stent placement, food intake improved, and a good quality of life was maintained. Subsequently, the patient received systemic chemotherapy with modified FOLFOX6 (mFOLFOX6). The tumor responded remarkably to chemotherapy, and the patient did not experience any complications. After 2 courses of mFOLFOX6, the patient underwent high anterior resection. The postoperative course was satisfactory, and she has now been disease-free for 6 months after surgery.

Controlling the size of gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) has been critical in diagnostics, biomolecular sensing, targeted therapy, wastewater treatment, catalysis, and sensing applications. Ultrasmall AuNPs (uAuNPs), with sizes Ranging from 2 to 5 nm, and gold nanoclusters (AuNCs), with sizes less than 2 nm, are often dealt with interchangeably in the literature, making it challenging to review them separately. Although they are grouped in our discussion, their chemical and physical properties differ significantly, partly due to their electronic properties.

The design of carbon allotropes that simultaneously exhibit mechanical robustness and quantum functionalities remains a longstanding challenge. Here, we report a comprehensive first-principles study of cT16, a three-dimensional sp-hybridized carbon network with topologically interlinked graphene-like sheets. The structure features high ideal tensile and shear strengths, with pronounced anisotropy arising from strain-induced bond rehybridization and interlayer slipping mechanisms.

Background/aims: Ampullary adenomas are precancerous lesions requiring accurate diagnosis and timely intervention to prevent malignant transformation. Endoscopic papillectomy (EP) has emerged as a less invasive alternative to surgery; however, technical variations in practice remain. This study evaluated contemporary real-world approaches to the diagnosis, treatment, and surveillance of ampullary adenomas among pancreatobiliary endoscopists.

High-voltage operation enables sodium-sufficient O3-type layered oxides to approach the maximum achievable energy densities for practical sodium-ion batteries (SIBs). This high-voltage regime, however, induces structural degradation strongly correlated with oxygen redox activity, a mechanism still incompletely resolved. Using prototypical O3-type NaNiFeMnO (NFM) as a model system, we identify the origin of this instability as a detrimental feedback loop between σ-type oxygen redox and cation migration.

Background: Of the mycotoxins, aflatoxin is the most significant. The detection of aflatoxin B1 (AFB1) is crucial for ensuring food safety, as this highly carcinogenic toxin readily contaminates crops such as grains and nuts, and timely detection can effectively prevent associated health risks. The selection of luminophores is of paramount importance in the detection of ECL (electrochemiluminescence).
