Aptamers, and the selection process known as Systematic Evolution of Ligands by Exponential Enrichment (SELEX) used to generate them, were first described more than twenty years ago. Since then, there have been numerous modifications to the selection procedures. This review discusses the use of modified bases as a means of enhancing serum stability and producing effective therapeutic tools, as well as functionalising these nucleic acids to be used as potential diagnostic agents.

Highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) H5N1 virus poses a continuing global public health threat due to its outbreaks in poultry farms and zoonotic transmission from birds to humans. In the quest of effective therapeutics against H5N1 infection, antibodies with broad neutralizing activity have attracted significant attention. In this study, we employed a phage display technique to select and identify VHH antibodies with specific neutralizing activity against H5N1 hemagglutinin (HA) from an immune llama-derived antibody library.

Inorganic nanomaterial-based peroxidase mimics have recently emerged as promising alternatives to natural peroxidases for enhancing the detection sensitivity of bioassays, such as enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Among them, magnetically active peroxidase mimics are particularly advantageous due to their ability to facilitate efficient separation and enrichment of target analytes. However, most reported magnetic peroxidase mimics suffer from limited catalytic efficiency and stability.

Purpose: Previous studies have shown that serum uric acid (UA) levels are significantly higher in patients with bipolar disorder (BD) than in patients with depressive disorder (DD), schizophrenia, and healthy controls. Currently, studies generally report that there is a complex bidirectional interaction between mood disorders (MD) and hyperuricemia (HUA). We investigated the prevalence and related factors of hyperuricemia in Chinese patients with mood disorders to find out potential mechanisms and build a predictive model.

The indications for extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) have broadened in clinical practice, and its use in circulatory failure caused by acute drug intoxication has become more frequent. We reviewed three cases of venoarterial (VA) ECMO use for intoxication at our hospital. Three cases (aged 60-69 years) developed refractory shock following intentional overdose, including calcium channel blockers.

The persistent presence of the pharmaceutical pollutant nilutamide (NLT) in environmental and biological systems poses a serious threat to ecosystems and human health, necessitating efficient and sustainable detection strategies. In this study, we present a nanoengineered SrWO@MXene electrocatalyst as a high-performance platform for electrochemical sensing. The hybrid material seamlessly integrates the catalytic activity and electrochemical stability of SrWO with the exceptional conductivity and tunable surface chemistry of MXenes, resulting in a synergistic architecture optimized for rapid and selective NLT detection.
