A simultaneous measurement system of temperature and strain is proposed and fabricated, which has advantages of low cost and easy structure. The system is formed by combining a long period fiber grating with a polarization-maintaining fiber Sagnac loop. The transmission spectrum of the fiber Sagnac interferometer is modulated by LPFG. The simultaneous measurement of temperature and strain can be realized. The experimental results show that the wavelength of the dip is varied with temperature changing and applied strain on polarization-maintaining fiber, and the intensity of the dip is changed with applied strain on LPFG. The temperature sensitivity of the system is 0.181 81 nm x degrees C(-1), the strain sensitivity of LPFG is 0. 005 283 dB x mu epsilon(-1), and the strain sensitivity of polarization-maintaining fiber Sagnac loop is 0.015 72 nm x mu epsilon(-1). The experimental system indicates that the proposal is feasible and has an application prospect.

Developing low-temperature gas sensors for parts per billion-level acetone detection in breath analysis remains challenging for non-invasive diabetes monitoring. We implement dual-defect engineering via one-pot synthesis of Al-doped WO nanorod arrays, establishing a W-O-Al catalytic mechanism. Al doping induces lattice strain to boost oxygen vacancy density by 31.

Many soft, tough materials have emerged in recent years, paving the way for advances in wearable electronics, soft robotics, and flexible displays. However, understanding the interfacial fracture behavior of these materials remains a significant challenge, owing to the difficulty of quantifying the respective contributions from viscoelasticity and damage to energy dissipation ahead of cracks. This work aims to address this challenge by labeling a series of polymer networks with fluorogenic mechanophores, subjecting them to T-peel tests at various rates and temperatures, and quantifying their force-induced damage using a confocal microscope.

Nanostructured cubic boron nitride (NS-cBN) has attracted significant attention due to its high hardness and excellent thermal stability, yet a systematic strategy to balance strength and toughness through atomically structural design remains elusive. Here, we integrate plasticity theory with large-scale atomistic simulations to elucidate the size-dependent roles of internal defects, i.e.

Restriction-modification (R-M) systems protect against phage infection by detecting and degrading invading foreign DNA. However, like many prokaryotic anti-phage defences, R-M systems pose a major risk of autoimmunity, exacerbated by the presence of hundreds to thousands of potential cleavage sites in the bacterial genome. Pseudomonas aeruginosa strains experience the temporary inactivation of restriction endonucleases following growth at high temperatures, but the reason and mechanisms for this phenomenon are unknown.
