Article Abstract

Isolated splenic metastasis is extremely rare. In this study, we report a case of a 52-year-old man referred for Pancoast Tobias Syndrome by which FDG PET/CT detected an isolated splenic metastasis. Diffusion-weighted MRI confirmed the isolated splenic lesion. A low apparent diffusion coefficient was consistent with a tumor lesion. CT-guided biopsy of both the lesions and histopathologic findings confirmed a lung adenocarcinoma with an isolated splenic metastasis. This case reveals a very rare occurrence of isolated splenic metastases in the context of lung cancer and illustrates the role of multimodality functional imaging for the early detection of uncommon metastasis.

A 59-year-old patient was undergoing careful monitoring of an isolated superior mesenteric artery dissection discovered 6 years prior. He was admitted after outpatient imaging revealed multiple visceral aneurysms including common hepatic and splenic artery aneurysms that had enlarged. Based on anatomical reasons and the past history, the splenic artery aneurysm was treated with endovascular therapy, while the common hepatic artery aneurysm was resected, and blood flow reconstruction was performed.

Unlabelled: The healthy intestine maintains homeostasis in part via immune responses to microbiota, which includes basal production of interferon cytokines. Previous work showed that Type III Interferon (IFN-λ) stimulates localized pockets of interferon-stimulated genes (ISGs) in the adult mouse intestinal epithelium at homeostasis that provide preemptive protection from viral pathogens. Here, we demonstrate that a major source of homeostatic IFN-λ production in the intestine is a population of epithelium-associated plasmacytoid dendritic cells (pDC).

African swine fever (ASF) is a hemorrhagic disease of domestic pigs and wild boars. The ASF virus (ASFV), a sole member of the family Asfarviridae and genus , causes this devastating disease. In sub-Saharan Africa, ASFV is maintained through three interlinked cycles: the domestic cycle, the pig-tick cycle, and the sylvatic cycle, which collectively sustain its endemic presence in the region.

Splenic abscesses are rare but potentially fatal infections, particularly in individuals with diabetes mellitus. Management strategies vary based on the abscess size, complexity, and response to the initial treatment. We report five patients with diabetes and splenic abscesses who were managed at a tertiary care centre.
