Subcompartmentalized hydrogel capsules (SHCs) with selectively degradable carriers and subunits are designed for potential applications in drug delivery and microencapsulated biocatalysis. Thiolated poly(methacrylic acid) and poly(N-vinyl pyrrolidone) are used to assemble 3-microm-diameter carrier capsules and 300-nm-diameter subunits, independently stabilized by a diverse range of covalent linkages. This paper presents examples of SHCs with tens of subcompartments and their successful drug loading, as well as selective degradation of the SHC carrier and/or subunits in response to multiple chemical stimuli.

The multifunctional systems presented here introduce an innovative and deeply thought-out approach to the more effective and safer use of temozolomide (TMZ) in treating glioma. The developed hydrogel-based flakes were designed to address the issues of local GBL therapy, bacterial neuroinfections, and the bleeding control needed during tumor resection. The materials obtained comprise TMZ and vancomycin (VANC) loaded into cyclodextrin/polymeric capsules and embedded into gelatin/hyaluronic acid/chitosan-based hydrogel films cross-linked with genipin.

Background: The aim of this study was to optimize a mucoadhesion testing protocol utilizing a vertical motorized test stand combined with a digital force gauge. The optimized protocol was applied to evaluate the mucoadhesive performance of various test materials, including lyophilized polymer matrices composed of chitosan, pectin, poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA), and hydroxypropyl methylcellulose (HPMC); compressed pectin-only disks; and commercial enteric-coated (HPMC-based) capsules.
Methods: Optimization involved systematic evaluation of key test parameters including start speed, applied contact force, contact time, and return (detachment) speed.

The application of EDTA exerted a governing effect on the synthesis of ZSM-5 zeolites. Analytical results revealed that EDTA presented as EDTA and EDTA in alkaline systems. Herein, EDTA served as the mineralized agent for dissolving amorphous gel into soluble Si-Al species, while EDTA acted as an electrostatic cross-linker, assembling with -butylamine and soluble Si-Al species into "Inorganic-Organic Hybrid Sphere.

Breast reconstruction remains hindered by the limitations of conventional implant materials such as silicone, which exhibit hydrophobicity and poor tissue integration, often leading to complications, including capsular contracture. Here, we report the development of a poly-(HEMA-MA)/Fe (PHM/Fe) hydrogel as a next-generation soft implant material. This hydrogel is synthesized via copolymerization of 2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate (HEMA) and maleic acid (MA), followed by immersion in FeCl to induce secondary cross-linking through Fe-carboxyl coordination.
