Approximate expressions of the ray aberrations for off-axis collimated beams and free form phase plates with a small derivative magnitude are derived with the defocus aberration taken into account. The cubic phase plate, which is one of the most commonly used phase plates in wavefront coding imaging systems, is illustrated as an example. The approximate expressions for the upper and lower boundaries of ray map, and the spot size in the vicinity of the focal plane are derived. The sensitivity to the defocus aberration and the variation of the induced aberrations with respect to the field positions are analyzed with derived approximate expressions as well. Some characteristics unmentioned before are derived, showing a good agreement with the exact aberrations. Finally some useful guidelines are given for the design of imaging systems with phase plates.

Fast and early detection of low-dose chemical toxicity is a critical unmet need in toxicology and human health, as conventional 2D culture models often fail to capture subtle cellular responses induced by sub-toxic exposures. Here, we present a bioengineered three-dimensional (3D) electrospun nanofibrous scaffold composed of polycaprolactone that enhances chromatin accessibility and primes fibroblasts for improved sensitivity to low-dose chemical stimuli in a short period. The scaffold mimics the extracellular matrix, providing topographical cues that reduce cytoskeletal tension and promote nuclear deformation, thereby increasing chromatin openness.

The bony consolidation of fractures depends on various factors. Under optimal conditions fracture healing takes place within a few weeks. An essential requirement for fracture healing is the restoration of adequate biomechanical stability with an interfragmentary movement which is as ideal as possible.

The collision of the Indian and Eurasian plates during the Eocene represents a major tectonic shift that significantly altered biotic dynamics and promoted species diversification across the Oriental region. To explain the diversification of taxa from the Indian subcontinent into Southeast Asia, two principal hypotheses have been proposed: the "Biotic-ferry" and "Step-stone" models. The subfamily Perittopinae, a lineage of semi-aquatic bugs comprising a single genus and 20 extant species, provides an ideal system for testing these hypotheses due to its disjunct distribution spanning the Indian subcontinent and Southeast Asia.

This study investigates the phenomenon of mode repulsion in Lamb waves propagating through two coupled plates with an elastic interface. Using a spring-based coupling model and the Scaled Boundary Finite Element Method, the dispersion curves of the coupled system are analyzed under various interface conditions-weak coupling, sliding boundary, and perfect coupling. This research highlights how the mechanical stiffness of the interface influences the separation of modes and the emergence of repulsion regions.

Functionalization of covalent organic frameworks (COFs) is a critical means to prepare COF-based gas chromatography stationary phases for high-resolution separation. Here, we report a simple and controllable multi-component strategy for the functionalization of COF stationary phases. As a proof of concept, a COF fabricated from 1,3,5-tris(4-aminophenyl) benzene (Tab) and 2,5-dihydroxy-1,4-benzenedicarboxaldehyde (DHTA), Tab-DHTA, was chosen as a model.
