Background: A case series of the cardiac magnetic resonance imaging findings in seven adult Alström patients.
Methods: Seven patients from the National Specialist Commissioning Group Centre for Alström Disease, Torbay, England, UK, completed the cardiac magnetic resonance imaging protocol to assess cardiac structure and function in Alström cardiomyopathy.
Results: All patients had some degree of left and right ventricular dysfunction. Patchy mid wall gadolinium delayed enhancement was demonstrated, suggesting an underlying fibrotic process. Some degree of cardiomyopathy was universal. No evidence of myocardial infarction or fatty infiltration was demonstrated, but coronary artery disease cannot be completely excluded. Repeat scanning after 18 months in one subject showed progression of fibrosis and decreased left ventricular function.
Conclusion: Adult Alström cardiomyopathy appears to be a fibrotic process causing impairment of both ventricles. Serial cardiac magnetic resonance scanning has helped clarify the underlying disease progression and responses to treatment. Confirmation of significant mutations in the ALMS1 gene should lead to advice to screen the subject for cardiomyopathy, and metabolic disorders.

The purpose of this study was to compare brain metabolite concentrations between healthy and CHD neonates before and after cardiac surgery. Healthy term newborns and neonates with CHD were recruited prospectively. T-weighted brain images and MRS data were acquired in the cerebellum, right frontal lobe and basal ganglia.

Background: Serial perfusion cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR) in symptomatic patients undergoing coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) may provide mechanistic insight into dynamic abnormalities of the myocardium.
Objectives: To assess how changes in cardiac reperfusion and remodelling associate with symptom improvement in patients undergoing CABG METHODS: Patients awaiting elective CABG completed serial quality of life questionnaires and detailed CMR at baseline and at 6-12 months post CABG as per protocol. Automated fully quantitative stress and rest myocardial blood flow was calculated, alongside assessment of the visual ischaemic burden.

Post-transplant rejection surveillance remains a cornerstone of heart transplant care. Although endomyocardial biopsy (EMB) has long been the gold standard for detecting rejection, its invasive nature, interobserver variability in histologic interpretation, and limitations in distinguishing between acute cellular rejection (ACR) and antibody-mediated rejection have prompted interest in noninvasive techniques. Traditional biomarkers- such as troponin, C-reactive protein, brain natriuretic peptide, and donor-specific antibodies- offer supplementary assessments of graft function but lack the specificity and sensitivity required to be standalone markers.

Purpose: (a) To design a methodology for drawing random samples of any Ensemble Average Propagator (EAP) (b) to modify the KomaMRI simulator to accommodate them as realistic spin movements to simulate diffusion MRI (dMRI) and (c) to compare these simulations with those based on the Diffusion Tensor (DT) model.
Theory And Methods: The rejection method is used for random sampling of EAPs: starting from a probability law that is easily sampled, and whose density function wraps the target EAP, samples are accepted when they lie inside the targeted region. This is used to sample the EAP as described by Mean Apparent Propagator MRI (MAP-MRI) and in Spherical Convolution (SC) based on Spherical Harmonics (SH).

Background: High blood pressure (BP) is a known risk factor for cognitive decline and dementia, but the underlying mechanisms are largely unknown. We investigated the associations of cumulative BP exposure with hippocampal subfield volume and cognitive function and determined whether hippocampal subfield atrophy mediates the association between cumulative BP exposure and cognitive decline.
Methods: Between December 2020 and March 2023, participants were prospectively included from the Kailuan study.
