We demonstrate that a femtosecond laser pulse-induced filament can act as a "polarization separator" for a copropagating femtosecond probe pulse. The probe component with polarization parallel to the pump is guided along the propagation axis through the cross interactions with the pump pulse. And the probe component with polarization orthogonal to that of the pump is diffracted out into an outer ring by the plasma. The extinction ratio (I(probe)(min) / I(probe)(max)) along the propagation axis is better than 1:20.

Biomolecular dynamics in the microsecond-to-millisecond (µs-ms) timescale are linked to various biological functions, such as enzyme catalysis, allosteric regulation, and ligand recognition. In solution state NMR, Carr-Purcell-Meiboom-Gill (CPMG) relaxation dispersion experiments are commonly used to probe µs-ms timescale motions, providing detailed kinetic, thermodynamic, and mechanistic information at the atomic level. For investigating conformational dynamics in high-molecular-weight biomolecules, methyl groups serve as ideal probes due to their favorable relaxation properties, and C CPMG relaxation dispersion is widely employed for characterizing dynamics in selectively CH-labeled samples.

On-chip terahertz (THz) spectroscopy has attracted growing attention because of its capability of measuring samples far smaller than the Rayleigh diffraction limit. The technique also allows the investigation of nonlinear responses of materials, which is indispensable for the development of ultrafast devices operating with a THz bandwidth. Here, we report the development of an on-chip THz-pump THz-probe spectroscopy technique that enables the study of ultrafast electrical-pulse-induced nonequilibrium phenomena.

Sum-frequency generation vibrational spectroscopy (SFG-VS) has been well-established as a unique spectroscopic probe to interrogate the structure, interaction, and dynamics of molecular interfaces, with sub-monolayer sensitivity and broad applications. Sub-1 cm-1 High-Resolution Broadband SFG-VS (HR-BB-SFG-VS) has shown advantages with high spectral resolution and accurate spectral line shape. However, due to the lower peak intensity for the long picosecond pulse used in achieving sub-wavenumber resolution in the HR-BB-SFG-VS measurement, only molecular interfaces with relatively strong signal have been studied.

Background: Pulsed electric field ablation (PFA) techniques for treating cardiac arrhythmias have attracted considerable interest. For example, atrial fibrillation can be effectively treated by pulmonary vein isolation using PFA. However, some arrhythmias originate deep within the myocardium, making them difficult to reach with conventional ablation methods.

Small-molecule metabolic chemical probes are tailored chemical biology tools that are designed to detect and visualize biological processes within a cell or an organism. Nucleoside analogues are a subset of metabolic probes that enable the study of DNA synthesis, proliferation kinetics, and cell cycle progression. However, most available nucleoside analogue probes have been designed for use in mammalian cells, limiting their use in other species, where there are metabolic pathway differences.
