Unlabelled: As the genome sequences of multiple strains of a given bacterial species are obtained, more generalized bacterial genome databases may be complemented by databases that are focused on providing more information geared for a distinct bacterial phylogenetic group and its associated research community. The Burkholderia Genome Database represents a model for such a database, providing a powerful, user-friendly search and comparative analysis interface that contains features not found in other genome databases. It contains continually updated, curated and tracked information about Burkholderia cepacia complex genome annotations, plus other Burkholderia species genomes for comparison, providing a high-quality resource for its targeted cystic fibrosis research community.

The AUA isoleucine codon is generally rare and used with varying frequency in bacterial genomes. The tRNA responsible for decoding this trinucleotide must be modified at the wobble position by tRNA lysidine synthetase (TilS) prior to aminoacylation and accommodation at the ribosome. To test the hypothesis that TilS catalytic efficiency correlates with AUA frequency, we cloned tilS genes from bacteria with varying AUA codon usage.

Melioidosis is a fatal bacterial infection caused by a soil-borne bacterium Burkholderia pseudomallei. Pneumonia, localized abscess and acute septicemia are the most common clinical presentations for melioidosis. Septic arthritis is relatively uncommon clinical manifestation and may cause severe infection.

Glanders is a highly contagious and often fatal zoonotic disease of equids caused by , a pathogen of significant concern due to its potential for bioterrorism. In Brazil, glanders remains endemic, particularly among working equids in the Northeast region. Diagnostic confirmation typically involves serology, culture, and polymerase chain reaction (PCR), although false-negative PCR results have been increasingly reported.

Gram-negative bacteria are known for causing diseases in humans, animals, and plants, and high intrinsic resistance to antibiotics. Phage therapy is a promising alternative to control multidrug-resistant bacterial pathogens. Here, we present an overview of phage characteristics, host specificity, genomic classification, and therapeutic potentials across medical, veterinary, and agricultural systems.
