An asymmetric quadrature birdcage body coil for hyperpolarized (HP) (3)He lung imaging at 1.5T is presented. The coil is designed to rest on top of the patient support and be used as a temporary insert in a clinical system. A two-part construction facilitates patient access and the asymmetric design makes maximal use of available bore space to ensure comfort. Highly homogeneous, circularly polarized RF magnetic fields are produced at 48.5 MHz using a conformal mapping method for the geometrical design, combined with an algebraic method to calculate the individual capacitance values on the birdcage coil's ladder network. Efficiency and isolation from the system's proton body coil are ensured by an integrated RF screen. The design methodology is readily applicable to other field strengths or nuclei. Improvements over existing (3)He coils were found in terms of sensitivity and transmit field homogeneity, an important feature in HP MRI.

Processing errors can result in an asymmetric stiffness distribution within a microelectromechanical system (MEMS) disk resonator gyroscope (DRG) and thereby cause a mode mismatch and reduce the mechanical sensitivity and closed-loop scale factor stability. This paper proposes an automatic mode-matching method that utilizes mode reversal to obtain the true resonant frequency of the operating state of a gyroscope for high-precision matching. This method constructs a gyroscope control system that contains a drive closed loop, sense force-to-rebalance (FTR) closed loop, and quadrature error correction closed loop.

Background: Fluorine-19 (F) magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is a non-invasive imaging tool for the targeted application of fluorinated agents, such as cell tracking, and for the demonstration of oximetry. However, as the SNR of F is significantly weaker than that of proton (H) imaging, the F coil must be combined with H coils for anatomical co-registration and B shimming. This is difficult due to the strong coupling between the coils when they are in proximity, and is problematic since the Larmor frequency of F is 94% that of H, further increasing the potential for coupling between the H and F elements.

This research examines the free vibration characteristics of composite ring-like structures enhanced with carbon nanotubes (CNTs), taking into account the effects of CNT agglomeration. The structural framework comprises two concentric composite rings linked by elastic springs, creating a coupled beam ring (CBR) system. The first-order shear deformation theory (FSDT) is applied to account for transverse shear deformation, while Hamilton's principle is employed to formulate the governing equations of motion.

Randomness is an essential resource and plays important roles in various applications ranging from cryptography to simulation of complex systems. Certified randomness from quantum process is ensured to have the element of privacy but usually relies on the device's behavior. To certify randomness without the characterization for device, it is crucial to realize the one-sided device-independent random number generation based on quantum steering, which guarantees security of randomness and relaxes the demands of one party's device.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFCarrier-assisted differential detection (CADD) is a promising solution for high-capacity and cost-sensitive short-reach application scenarios, in which the optical field of a complex-valued double-sideband (CV-DSB) signal is reconstructed without using a local oscillator laser. In this work, we propose a polarization division multiplexed asymmetric twin single-sideband CADD (PDM-ATSSB CADD) scheme to realize the optical field recovery of the PDM CV-DSB signals. The polarization fading is solved by using a pair of optical bandpass filters (OBPFs) to suppress the unwanted other polarized offset carrier and signal, and the dual-polarization optical field is recovered by the CADD receiver.
