Planar optical elements incorporating space-varying Pancharatnam-Berry phase have revolutionized the manipulation of light fields by enabling continuous control over amplitude, phase, and polarization. While previous research focusing on linear functionalities using apolar liquid crystals (LCs) has attracted much attention, extending this concept to the nonlinear regime offers unprecedented opportunities for advanced optical processing. Here, we demonstrate the reconfigurable nonlinear Pancharatnam-Berry LC diffractive optics in photopatterned ion-doped ferroelectric nematics.

Cardiovascular disease remains a leading cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide, with conventional management often applying standardised approaches that struggle to address individual variability in increasingly complex patient populations. Computational models, both knowledge-driven and data-driven, have the potential to reshape cardiovascular medicine by offering innovative tools that integrate patient-specific information with physiological understanding or statistical inference to generate insights beyond conventional diagnostics. This review traces how computational modelling has evolved from theoretical research tools into clinical decision support systems that enable personalised cardiovascular care.

Nanopore direct RNA sequencing (DRS) is a transformative technology that enables full-length, single-molecule sequencing of native RNA, capturing transcript isoforms and preserving epitranscriptomic modifications without cDNA conversion. This review outlines key advances in DRS, including optimized protocols for mRNA, rRNA, tRNA, circRNA, and viral RNA, as well as analytical tools for isoform quantification, poly(A) tail measurement, fusion transcript identification, and base modification profiling. We highlight how DRS has redefined transcriptomic studies across diverse systems-from uncovering novel transcripts and alternative splicing events in cancer, plants, and parasites to enabling the direct detection of m6A, m5C, pseudouridine, and RNA editing events.

Oil-water emulsions are prevalent in petroleum, chemical, and materials industries, where their rheological properties significantly impact processing efficiency. This review systematically examines the key factors influencing the apparent viscosity of oil-water emulsions, including oil composition, water characteristics, temperature, shear conditions, and emulsifier properties. It traces the evolution of viscosity prediction methodologies, encompassing conventional, complex, and Pickering emulsions, and assesses modeling approaches ranging from early theoretical frameworks to contemporary machine learning techniques.
