Article Abstract

We report the case of a 7-year-old Thai girl that was bitten by a dog. She received prompt wound care followed by eight-site intradermal post-exposure rabies schedule using purified chick embryo vaccine. Treatment followed WHO recommendations for desperate situations where no rabies immune globulin (RIG) is available. The patient died 15 days later with classical symptoms and signs of encephalitic rabies.

This study aimed to assess the impact of yeast beta-1,3/1,6-glucans (BG) on apparent digestibility coefficients (ADC) of nutrients, intestinal fermentative metabolites, fecal microbiota profile, and immune and antioxidant variables in puppies before and after surgical challenge. Two treatments were evaluated: control, without, and test, with oral supplementation of 65 mg/kg body weight/day of purified BG from Saccharomyces cerevisiae for 120 days. Rabies is a dangerous viral neglected tropical disease and infects humans, causing big problems for health authorities in Ethiopia. Though PEP is available, still there is insufficient awareness, difficulties of accessing to healthcare and logistics issues still make it hard for some to properly follow the rabies vaccination schedule. The rabies virus (RABV) phosphoprotein (P protein) has multiple functions, including acting as the essential non-catalytic cofactor of the viral polymerase (L protein) for genome replication and transcription; the principal viral antagonist of the interferon (IFN)-mediated innate immune response; and the chaperone for the viral nucleoprotein (N protein). Although P protein is known to undergo phosphorylation by cellular kinases, the location and functions of the phosphorylation sites remains poorly defined. Here, we report the identification by mass-spectrometry (MS) of residues of P protein that are modified by phosphorylation in mammalian cells, including several novel sites.
