Dolutegravir (DTG) is increasingly replacing efavirenz (EFV) as the recommended first-line antiretroviral therapy (cART) component due to its superior tolerance. However, both EFV-based and DTG-based cART regimens are associated with metabolic and neuropsychiatric disorders through mechanisms that remain poorly understood. In this study, the abundance of Lactobacillus was significantly reduced, along with elevated soluble CD14 levels, in HIV-1-infected individuals receiving EFV-based cART compared to those on DTG-based cART.

In the present investigation, fourteen unprecedented podocarpane diterpenoids strophiolosas A-J, L-N and P (1-10, 12-14, 16), two new cleistanthane derivatives strophiolosas Q-R (17-18), two new dibenzopyroan-ones and one new tetralone strophiolosas S-U (19-21), were isolated from the whole plant of Strophioblachia glandulosa. The structures were elucidated via various spectroscopic analysis, quantum chemistry calculations, and X-ray diffraction. Bioactivity test indicated that compounds 5 and 17 possessed promising anti-cardiac hypertrophy effect in vitro (IC values of 16.

Six new prenylated flavonoids, named visconaeas A-F (1-6), and eleven known isopentenyl flavonoids (7-17) were isolated from Dodonaea viscosa (L.) Jacq. The structures of the separated compounds were determined through comprehensive spectral analysis and quantum chemical calculations.

Article Synopsis
  • Eleven new diterpenoids were found in a whole plant, categorized into five different carbon skeleton types, including one never seen before.
  • * Spectroscopic methods, single-crystal X-ray diffraction, and electronic circular dichroism were used to determine their structures and configurations.
  • * Two of these compounds showed activity against the Zika virus, effectively inhibiting its replication without harming host cells at higher concentrations.*

Article Synopsis
  • - Four new diterpenoids (1-4) and sixteen known ones (5-20) were extracted from the plant Euphorbia helioscopia L., with compounds 1 and 2 categorized as rhamofolane, compound 3 as lathyranes, and compound 4 as jathophanes.
  • - The isolated compounds were evaluated for their cytotoxicity and efficacy against the Zika virus, with compounds 9 and 15 demonstrating low cytotoxicity and high anti-Zika activity (EC values of 2.63 and 5.94 μM, respectively).
  • - Researchers further assessed the inhibitory effects of these compounds on protein levels using techniques like Western blotting and immunof

Context: Aryl hydrocarbon receptor (AhR) agonists are potential therapeutic agents for ulcerative colitis (UC). Indirubin (IDR), which is a natural AhR ligand approved for leukemia treatment, ameliorates dextran sulfate sodium (DSS)-induced colitis in mice. However, the therapeutic mechanisms of IDR are unknown, limiting its application.

Global warming has induced higher frequencies of excessively high-temperature weather episodes, which pose damage risk to rice growth and production. Past studies seldom specified how high temperature-induced carbohydrate metabolism disturbances from both source and sink affect rice fertilization and production. Here we discuss the mechanism of heat-triggered damage to rice quality and production through disturbance of carbohydrate generation and consumption under high temperatures.

Objective: The aim of the present study was to observe the effect of sacubitril valsartan on cardiac function and vascular endothelial function in patients with chronic heart failure with reduced ejection fraction (HFrEF).

Methods: A total of 80 patients with HFrEF were randomly divided into an observation group and a control group, with 40 patients in each group. Sacubitril valsartan was added to the conventional treatment in the observation group, and perindopril was added to the conventional treatment in the control group.

We investigate fluctuations of the velocity and temperature fields in two-dimensional (2D) Rayleigh-Bénard (RB) convection by means of direct numerical simulations (DNS) over the Rayleigh number range 10^{6}≤Ra≤10^{10} and for a fixed Prandtl number Pr=5.3 and aspect ratio Γ=1. Our results show that there exists a counter-gradient turbulent transport of energy from fluctuations to the mean flow both locally and globally, implying that the Reynolds stress is one of the driving mechanisms of the large-scale circulation in 2D turbulent RB convection besides the buoyancy of thermal plumes.

Objective: To investigate the effects of hepatitis B virus (HBV) in semen on human semen parameters and sperm DNA integrity.

Methods: We detected HBV DNA in the semen samples of 153 HBsAg-seropositive patients by real-time fluorescence quantitative PCR and calculated the sperm nuclear DNA fragmentation index (DFI) by sperm chromatin dispersion (SCD) assay. We compared the semen parameters between the HBV DNA-positive group (A, n = 43) and HBV DNA-negative group (B, n = 110) and analyzed the correlation of sperm DFI with the number of HBV DNA copies in the semen.
