Bile acids (BAs) may contribute to dementia by regulating neuroinflammation and influencing gut-brain axis signaling, especially in Alzheimer's disease (AD). However, their alterations in dementia development are rather complex and their impact on dementia risk remains inconclusive. To provide a comprehensive understanding of these associations, we systematically reviewed cross-sectional and longitudinal studies on circulating BAs and dementia.

This study, conducted from November 2023 to March 2024 in Harbin, China, explored frailty risk perceptions among 25 elderly colorectal cancer (CRC) patients using qualitative interviews and Colaizzi's method for analysis. Findings reveal that these perceptions change dynamically across different treatment stages, often deviating from medical definitions. Initially optimistic, patients later experienced increased anxiety and confusion about preventive measures.

Objectives: Religious service attendance has previously been associated with greater levels of well-being, as well as milder symptoms of depression and anxiety. However, few studies have explored this association within the Amdo Tibetan population. This study aims to estimate the association between religious service attendance and psychiatric symptoms among older Amdo Tibetans.

Religious celibate monks at the household level possibly reduce all-cause mortality risk among non-monk older Tibetans. This study aims to investigate the association between having a celibate monk in a family and the all-cause mortality of non-monk household members in a Tibetan population. Baseline interviews were conducted for 713 agropastoral Amdo Tibetans aged ≥50 years residing in the eastern Tibetan Plateau from 2016 to 2017.

Background: Feeding intolerance (FI) following surgery for neonatal necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC) can impact recovery and prognosis, making the early identification of FI risk essential for optimizing management and improving outcomes.

Methods: We retrospectively collected data from patients who underwent surgery for NEC between January 2013 and December 2023. Multivariate binary logistic regression was performed to identify independent factors influencing postoperative feeding intolerance.

Background: Colorectal cancer is a major cause of cancer-related deaths in China. Timely screening is essential for reducing mortality, but implementing comprehensive programs in Chinese healthcare settings is challenging.

Objective: This study identifies barriers and facilitators to colorectal cancer screening (CRCS) in China and recommends effective implementation strategies.

Objective: Adherence to guideline-recommended colorectal cancer screening (CRCS) among average-risk urban populations in China remains significantly suboptimal. This mixed-methods study aimed to investigate screening behaviors and associated factors among average-risk urban populations through a multi-center approach.

Methodology: From February to July 2024, 550 participants were recruited via stratified random sampling in Harbin, China.

Inflammation and bacterial infection are important causes of implant failure, and the development of multifunctional titanium surfaces to address these issues is an effective means of treating infected bone defects. In this study, polyphenols (EGCG) and Zn were first loaded onto the titanium surface to construct an EGCG/Zn polyphenol metal network coating. Then melatonin (MT) was loaded into the EGCG/Zn network structure to prepare the EGCG/Zn/MT composite coating.

Background And Objective: While earlier studies have focused on the relationship between stress and obesity, there was a gap in understanding the potential impact of positive psychological factors, such as resilience, on obesity. By investigating the role of psychological resilience with obesity, this study aimed to address this gap and tackle obesity through a positive psychological framework.

Methods: Participants consisted of 2445 community residents from Shenzhen, China, with a mean age of 41.

Background: The study aimed to find out the association between sleep duration and psychological resilience in a population-based survey.

Materials And Methods: A cross-sectional survey was conducted in August 2022, employing a cluster random sampling method to recruit community residents at Futian District in Shenzhen, China. A total of 2,445 participants aged 18 years and over were included in the study.

Article Synopsis
  • Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and interstitial lung disease (ILD) are associated with shorter telomere length (TL), but previous research primarily focused on European populations, making this study relevant for an Asian demographic.
  • The study aimed to analyze the causal relationship between leukocyte TL and the risk of developing COPD and ILD in a sample of Japanese individuals, using data from the Biobank Japan Project.
  • Results indicated a significant inverse relationship, suggesting that shorter leukocyte TL may causally increase the risk of COPD (OR = 0.78) and ILD (OR = 0.29), emphasizing the potential relevance of TL in respiratory diseases.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to investigate the relationship between psychological resilience and DNA methylation age, using data from 4,018 participants in the Health and Retirement Study.
  • Researchers applied multivariable linear regression models to examine this association, controlling for factors like age, sex, and education.
  • Results indicated that higher psychological resilience scores were linked to slower DNA methylation age acceleration across most epigenetic clocks, suggesting greater resilience may correlate with slower biological aging.

Objectives: To investigate whether shorter telomere length is a causal risk factor for systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) in the Asian population.

Methods: We applied the two-sample Mendelian randomization (MR) method to the pooled statistics from a genome-wide association study (GWAS) of 6,707 SLE cases and 16,047 controls. We selected nine single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) with genome-wide significance as instrumental variables for telomere length.
