Background And Aims: Metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) is the fastest-rising cause of HCC. A third of MASLD-HCC occur in the absence of cirrhosis, but tools to predict MASLD-HCC are lacking. Our study aimed to examine whether liver stiffness measurement (LSM) is associated with HCC risk in MASLD, identify if LSM thresholds can predict HCC risk, and identify patients for cost-effective HCC surveillance.

Cardiovascular disease (CVD) remains a significant global health concern, with many risk factors emerging in adolescence. This period is critical for prevention, as physical and behavioral patterns established during these years often persist into adulthood. Movement phenotypes, encompassing motor competence, physical capacity, and physical activity behaviours, are linked to cardiometabolic health as low competence and fitness levels in youth are associated with poor body composition and increased CVD risk.

Congestive heart failure (CHF) is a prevalent cardiovascular disease, with increasing incidence and mortality rates associated with aging populations and rising rates of chronic diseases. Systemic inflammatory response is recognized to play a pivotal role in the pathogenesis of CHF, and the aggregate index of systemic inflammation (AISI) has garnered widespread attention as a comprehensive indicator reflecting inflammatory status in recent years. However, there is currently a lack of large-scale epidemiological studies investigating the relationship between AISI and all-cause, cardiovascular, and cardio-cerebrovascular mortality risks among CHF patients.

Background: Understanding the risk of hospitalization from severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infections can guide effective public health interventions and severity assessments. This study calculated infection-hospitalization ratios (IHRs) and infection-case ratios (ICRs) to understand the relationship between SARS-CoV-2 infections, cases, and hospitalizations among different age groups during periods of Delta and Omicron variant predominance.

Methods: After calculating antinucleocapsid SARS-CoV-2 antibody seroprevalence using residual commercial laboratory serum specimens, 2 ratios were computed: (1) IHRs using coronavirus disease 2019 hospitalization data and (2) ICRs using Centers for Disease Control and Prevention surveillance data.

Article Synopsis
  • Persistent sex disparities in physical activity and sports participation among US children and adolescents could benefit from interventions aimed at reducing these gaps.
  • A simulation study modeled the potential lifetime impacts of increasing female participants' activity levels to match male levels, examining health and economic outcomes based on the agent-based model of 8,299,353 children aged 6 to 17 in 2023.
  • Results indicated that eliminating these disparities could prevent over 28,000 cases of overweight and obesity by age 18, potentially saving approximately $780 million in combined medical costs and productivity losses over the lifetimes of the affected cohorts.

The effectiveness of electrochemical reductive defluorination is impeded by the low environmental concentrations of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFASs) and the robust nature of C - F bonds. In this work, we investigate the zeolitic imidazolate framework-67 (ZIF-67) as a promising catalyst for PFASs remediation. We show that ZIF-67 hold promise for simultaneous adsorption and reductive defluorination of 2-(trifluoromethyl) acrylic acid (TFMAA).

This study proposes a new method to evaluate the effectiveness of orebody grade estimations, drawing upon the analysis of existing evaluation methods for grade estimation. This new approach addresses factors such as uneven sampling and asymmetric estimation range, which are challenging to overcome with existing evaluation techniques. The core principle of this method involves documenting how frequently individual samples are used during grade estimation and calculating the total distance weights for each sample.

Antibiotic residues in aquaculture environment pose persistent threats to ecology and human health, exacerbated by salt-alkali mariculture wastewater. Yet, little is known about antibiotic removal in tidal flow constructed wetlands (TFCWs) under salinity stress, especially considering TFCW constitution, configuration, and influent water characteristics. Here, the removal performance and mechanism of different TFCWs for sulfonamide antibiotics (SAs: sulfadiazine, sulfamethazine, sulfamonomethoxine, and sulfamethoxazole) and trimethoprim (TMP) from mariculture wastewater (with low, medium, and high salinity) were evaluated alongside comparisons of environmental factors and microbial responses.
