Purpose: To compare the outcomes of corneal collagen cross-linking combined with lamellar keratoplasty (CXL-LK) versus LK alone in treating medically unresponsive acanthamoeba keratitis (AK).

Methods: This retrospective, non-randomized controlled clinical study included 11 eyes (CXL-LK group) and 16 eyes (LK group) at a tertiary ophthalmology center. Corneal infiltration, density of acanthamoeba cysts (AC) and pathological changes following CXL in AK patients were assessed.

Development of a Monoclonal Antibody-Based Colloidal Gold Immunochromatographic Strip for Detection of Feline Coronavirus Infections.

This study aimed to generate a monoclonal antibody (mAb) against feline coronavirus (FCoV) spike (S) protein and to develop a colloidal gold immunochromatographic strip for the rapid and accurate FCoV detection. BALB/c mice were immunized with the purified protein, and hybridoma technology was employed to produce highly effective mAb. A positive hybridoma cell line (E5) was identified, which stably secreted mAb with a high titer of 1:256000 against the FCoV S recombinant protein.

Nonlinear optical signatures of spin relaxation in 2D perovskites.

Spin-orbit coupling splits the exciton resonances of two-dimensional organic-inorganic hybrid perovskites (2D-OIHPs) into an optically active fine structure. Although circularly polarized light can induce macroscopic spin polarizations in ensembles of quantum wells, the orientations of the angular momentum vectors associated with individual excitons generally randomize on sub-picosecond timescales in 2D-OIHPs with single lead-iodide layers. In the present work, we investigate the nonlinear optical signatures of spin depolarization in 2D-OIHP materials with various organic layer thicknesses and polaron binding energies.

Visual rehabilitation using rigid gas permeable contact lenses after femtosecond laser-assisted minimally invasive lamellar keratoplasty in patients with keratoconus.

This study aims to observe the clinical efficacy and safety of rigid gas permeable corneal contact lenses (RGP-CLs) wearing after femtosecond laser-assisted minimally invasive lamellar keratoplasty (FL-MILK) in progressive and advanced keratoconus eyes. Twenty-five patients (27 eyes) fitted with RGP-CLs after FL-MILK were enrolled, and 22 grading-matched keratoconus patients (23 eyes) as a control group. Corneal morphological data, diopter, best corrected vision, corneal endothelium, non-invasive tear film rupture time (NIBUT), corneal perception and comfort questionnaire were analysed before and after wearing RGP-CLs.

A general and mild synthetic method for fused-ring electronic acceptors.

Fused-ring electronic acceptors (FREAs) have transformed the field of organic solar cells. However, the prevailing syntheses of FREAs suffer from low yield, difficulty in separation, and high cost. Here, we report new and streamlined syntheses with three distinctive key steps.

Elucidating phonon dephasing mechanisms in layered perovskites with coherent Raman spectroscopies.

Organic-inorganic hybrid perovskite quantum wells exhibit electronic structures with properties intermediate between those of inorganic semiconductors and molecular crystals. In these systems, periodic layers of organic spacer molecules occupy the interstitial spaces between perovskite sheets, thereby confining electronic excitations to two dimensions. Here, we investigate spectroscopic line broadening mechanisms for phonons coupled to excitons in lead-iodide layered perovskites with phenyl ethyl ammonium (PEA) and azobenzene ethyl ammonium (AzoEA) spacer cations.

Correlation of retrobulbar perfusion deficits with glaucomatous visual field defects.

Purpose: This study is to evaluate the correlation between retrobulbar perfusion deficits and glaucomatous visual field defects.

Methods: Eighty-four patients with glaucoma and 17 normal subjects serving as controls were selected. Color Doppler imaging (CDI) was used to measure the changes in blood flow parameters in the retrobulbar ophthalmic artery (OA), central retinal artery (CRA), and short posterior ciliary arteries (SPCAs).

Characteristics of bacterial community in eyelashes of patients with Demodex blepharitis.

Background: Demodex blepharitis (DB) is a common disease of the ocular surface. The characteristics of the bacterial community in eyelash roots after Demodex infestation are still unknown. Knowledge of the characteristics of the bacterial community of eyelash follicles in patients with DB can provide valuable insights for guiding the diagnosis and treatment of DB.

Prevalence of natural feline coronavirus infection in domestic cats in Fujian, China.

Only few studies have investigated the prevalence of feline coronavirus (FCoV) infection in domestic cats in Fujian, China. This is the first study to report the prevalence rate of FCoV infection in domestic cats in Fujian, China, and to analyse the epidemiological characteristics of FCoV infection in the region. A total of 112 cat faecal samples were collected from animal hospitals and catteries in the Fujian Province.

Application of Entity-BERT model based on neuroscience and brain-like cognition in electronic medical record entity recognition.

Introduction: In the medical field, electronic medical records contain a large amount of textual information, and the unstructured nature of this information makes data extraction and analysis challenging. Therefore, automatic extraction of entity information from electronic medical records has become a significant issue in the healthcare domain.

Methods: To address this problem, this paper proposes a deep learning-based entity information extraction model called Entity-BERT.

Recently, truncating variants in RyR2 have also been associated with ventricular arrhythmias (VAs) and sudden cardiac death. However, there are limited insights into the potential clinical relevance and in vitro functional impact of RyR2 truncating variants.

Objective: To analyze the incidence and risk factors of dry eye in children from a myopia outpatient clinic a questionnaire and Keratograph 5M.

Methods: A cross-sectional study was performed. sThere were 214 children (428 eyes) selected from the myopia outpatient clinic of the affiliated Eye Hospital of Shandong First Medical University from July 2021 to September 2021, including 105 boys (210 eyes) and 109 girls (218 eyes), with an average age of 10.

Correlation Study Between Abnormal Morphology of Meibomian Glands and Meibum in Patients With Dry Eye Disease Under Confocal Microscopy.

To observe differences in meibomian gland morphology among patients with meibomian gland dysfunction (MGD) with liquid meibum, with solid meibum, and a non-MGD group by laser scanning confocal microscopy (IVCM), and then analyze the correlation between meibomian gland abnormalities and dry eye disease. Twenty-one patients with MGD (42 eyes) with liquid meibum, 21 patients with MGD (38 eyes) with solid meibum, and 24 non-MGD patients (39 eyes) were enrolled in the study. IVCM examination and Schirmer II test were performed, and non-invasive tear-film breakup time (NIBUT) was measured.

Clinical and Functional Characterization of Ryanodine Receptor 2 Variants Implicated in Calcium-Release Deficiency Syndrome.

Importance: Calcium-release deficiency syndrome (CRDS), which is caused by loss-of-function variants in cardiac ryanodine receptor 2 (RyR2), is an emerging cause of ventricular fibrillation. However, the lack of complex polymorphic/bidirectional ventricular tachyarrhythmias during exercise stress testing (EST) may distinguish it from catecholaminergic polymorphic ventricular tachycardia (CPVT). Recently, in the first clinical series describing the condition, mouse and human studies showed that the long-burst, long-pause, short-coupled ventricular extra stimulus (LBLPS) electrophysiology protocol reliably induced CRDS ventricular arrhythmias.

Sintilimab induced diabetic ketoacidosis in a patient with small cell lung cancer: A case report and literature review.

Rationale: Sintilimab is a novel programmed cell death receptor-1 (PD-1) inhibitor approved in the treatment of classical Hodgkin's lymphoma and undergoing clinical trials for various malignancies. As a PD-1 inhibitor, sintilimab is known to cause autoimmune adverse events similar to other PD-1 inhibitors. Diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA) is a rare but severe adverse event of this therapy.

Identification of loss-of-function RyR2 mutations associated with idiopathic ventricular fibrillation and sudden death.

Mutations in cardiac ryanodine receptor (RyR2) are linked to catecholaminergic polymorphic ventricular tachycardia (CPVT). Most CPVT RyR2 mutations characterized are gain-of-function (GOF), indicating enhanced RyR2 function as a major cause of CPVT. Loss-of-function (LOF) RyR2 mutations have also been identified and are linked to a distinct entity of cardiac arrhythmia termed RyR2 Ca2+ release deficiency syndrome (CRDS).

Ca-CaM Dependent Inactivation of RyR2 Underlies Ca Alternans in Intact Heart.

Rationale: Ca alternans plays an essential role in cardiac alternans that can lead to ventricular fibrillation, but the mechanism underlying Ca alternans remains undefined. Increasing evidence suggests that Ca alternans results from alternations in the inactivation of cardiac RyR2 (ryanodine receptor 2). Metabolic syndrome in native populations living at high altitude: a cross-sectional survey in Derong, China.

Objective: The metabolic syndrome is a major risk factor for cardiovascular disease. Little information exists on the prevalence of the metabolic syndrome at high-altitude areas in China. We aimed to estimate the prevalence of metabolic syndrome and its individual components at high altitude.

The expression of TET3 regulated cell proliferation in HepG2 cells.

Ten-eleven translocation (TET) proteins have been shown to be abnormally expressed in different cancers. To investigate the expression pattern of TET proteins in HepG2 cells, sodium ascorbate was used to treat HepG2 cells. Our results showed that TET1, TET2 and TET3 expression was increased after sodium ascorbate treatment.

Optimization of Diagnosis and Treatment of Chronic Diseases Based on Association Analysis Under the Background of Regional Integration.

In order to improve medical quality, shorten hospital stays, and reduce redundant treatment, an optimization of diagnosis and treatment of chronic diseases based on association analysis under the background of regional integration in the paper was proposed, which was to expand the scope of application of the clinical pathway standard diagnosis and treatment program in the context of regional medical integration and mass medical data, so that it had a larger group of patients within the region. In the context of regional medical integration, owing to the types of medical data were diverse, the preprocessing requirements and process specifications for diagnosis and treatment data were firstly proposed. At the stage of diagnosis and treatment unit optimization, the correlation between clinical behaviors was analyzed by using association rules of the FP-growth and Apriori algorithm.
