Background: Anxiety disorders (ADs) and thyroid tumors (TTs) are prevalent and frequently co-occur. Previous studies suggest that the N-methyl-d-aspartate receptor (NMDAR) may play a role in their co-occurrence, but the understanding of their relationship is not comprehensive. The aim of this study was to investigate the role of NMDAR in the progression of animal models of AD with TT.

Radiotherapy reduces the risk of cancer recurrence and death, but the fact that it's accompanied by multiple side effects including muscle fibrosis and weakness, seriously affects the life quality of patients. However, the underlying mechanism is poorly defined. Here, we identify that cancer cells secrete more spermidine synthase (SRM) enzyme through small extracellular vesicles to trigger skeletal muscle weakness upon radiotherapy.

Background: Radiotherapy resistance has become one of the major causes of radiotherapy failure among patients with non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), but its underlying mechanism remains unclear. In recent years, the influence of mitochondrial autophagy on the radiotherapy resistance in treated tumor cells and its regulatory mechanism has become a hotspot in research, which is also the subject of our group research effort. The primary objective of our study is to investigate the mitophagy-associated pathway and the regulatory mechanisms underlying radiotherapy resistance in NSCLC.

The ability to evaluate valence of a social agent based on social experience is essential for an animal's survival in its social group. Although hippocampal circuits have been implicated in distinguishing novel and familiar conspecifics, it remains unclear how social valence is constructed on the basis of social history and what mechanisms underlie the heightened valence versatility in dynamic relationships. Here we demonstrate that the ventral (v)CA1 integrates serotonin (5-HT) inputs from the dorsal raphe and neurotensin inputs from the paraventricular nucleus of the thalamus (PVT) to determine positive or negative valence of conspecific representations.

Prior studies have reported connections between cathepsins (CTS) and gynecological cancers; however, the exact causal links are yet to be fully understood. Leveraging publicly accessible genome-wide association study summary datasets, we performed a two-sample bidirectional Mendelian randomization (MR) and multivariate MR (MVMR) analysis, with the inverse variance weighted (IVW) method as the primary approach. MR analysis demonstrated inverse associations between CTSB and cervical cancer (IVW: odds ratio [OR] = 0.

Cancer cells secrete extracellular vesicles (EV) encapsulating bioactive cargoes to facilitate inter-organ communication in vivo and are emerging as critical mediators of tumor progression and metastasis, a condition which is often accompanied by a dysregulated cholesterol metabolism. Whether EVs are involved in the control of cholesterol homeostasis during tumor metastasis is still undefined and warrant further investigation. Here, we find that breast cancer-derived exosomal miR-9-5p induces the expression of HMGCR and CH25H, two enzymes involved in cholesterol synthesis and the conversion of 25-hydroxycholesterol from cholesterol by targeting INSIG1, INSIG2 and ATF3 genes in the liver.
