Objective: This study aimed to assess the feasibility and cost-effectiveness of hand-held echocardiography-based screening for Stage B or C heart failure among individuals with hypertension and/or diabetes at the High-tech Area Fangcao Community Health Service Center and the Tianfu New Area Huayang Community Health Service Center in Chengdu, China, with the objective of promoting early diagnosis and intensified care.

Methods: Patients with hypertension and/or diabetes registered and cared for at two community health service centers (CHSCs; Chengdu, China) with no history of clinical heart failure were recruited between October 2021 and December 2021. By combining symptom assessment (dyspnea and/or edema) and N-terminal-probrain natriuretic peptide (NT-proBNP ≥ 125 pg/ml as the cut-off) levels with HHE for any indexed abnormality in the dedicated semi-quantitative protocol, patients were categorized into heart failure (HF) Stages A, B, and C.

Background: Radioresistance presents a major challenge in the treatment of cervical cancer (CC). Apoptotic tumor cells can create an "onco-regenerative niche," contributing to radioresistance. However, the intercellular signaling mechanisms mediating the transfer of radioresistance from apoptotic to surviving cancer cells remain unclear.

Article Synopsis
  • Impaired bone quality and increased fracture risk in diabetes may be linked to oxidative stress from high glucose levels affecting osteoblast function.
  • High glucose causes an increase in reactive oxygen species and disrupts the PINK1/Drp1 pathway, which is crucial for mitophagy and late-stage osteoblast differentiation.
  • Enhancing PINK1/Drp1 expression in diabetic mice can improve bone quality and mineral density, indicating it as a possible target for treating diabetic osteoporosis.

Background: Ferroptosis, a newly identified form of regulated cell death triggered by small molecules or specific conditions, plays a significant role in virus-associated carcinogenesis. However, whether tumours arising after high-risk HPV integration are associated with ferroptosis is unexplored and remains enigmatic.

Methods: High-risk HPV16 integration was analysed by high-throughput viral integration detection (HIVID).

Carbapenem-resistant Acinetobacter baumannii infections have limited treatment options. Synthesis, transport and placement of lipopolysaccharide or lipooligosaccharide (LOS) in the outer membrane of Gram-negative bacteria are important for bacterial virulence and survival. Here we describe the cerastecins, inhibitors of the A.

Acute mesenteric ischemia (AMI) is a clinically significant vascular and gastrointestinal condition, which is closely related to the blood supply of the small intestine. Unfortunately, it is still challenging to properly discriminate small intestinal tissues with different degrees of ischemia. In this study, hyperspectral imaging (HSI) was used to construct pseudo-color images of oxygen saturation about small intestinal tissues and to discriminate different degrees of ischemia.

The pathogenesis of glioma has remained unclear. In this study, it was found that high expression of the outer dense fibers of sperm tail 3B (ODF3B) in gliomas was positively correlated with the grade of glioma. The higher the grade, the worse the prognosis.

Background: Patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) are predisposed to cardiovascular disease (CVD). Bone mineral density (BMD) is linked to CVD, but most studies focused on women. Our analysis aims to explore the association of BMD and fracture with the prevalence of CVD in men with T2DM.

This study aimed to investigate the effects of male hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection on male fertility, embryonic development, and in vitro fertilization/intracytoplasmic sperm injection (IVF/ICSI) outcomes. We performed a retrospective cohort study that included 3965 infertile couples who received fresh embryo transfer cycles for the first time at the Fujian Maternity and Child Health Hospital (Fuzhou, China) from January 2018 to January 2021. Infertile couples were categorized based on their HBV infection status into the HBV group (HBV-positive men and HBV-negative women) and the control group (HBV-negative couples).

Background: In recent years, the prevalence of obesity and metabolic syndrome in type 1 diabetes (T1DM) patients has gradually increased. Insulin resistance in T1DM deserves attention. It is necessary to clarify the relationship between body composition, metabolic syndrome and insulin resistance in T1DM to guide clinical treatment and intervention.

Background: The dynamic interaction between cancer cells and tumour-associated macrophages (TAMs) in the hypoxic tumour microenvironment (TME) is an active barrier to the effector arm of the antitumour immune response. Cancer-secreted exosomes are emerging mediators of this cancer-stromal cross-talk in the TME; however, the mechanisms underlying this interaction remain unclear.

Methods: Exosomes were isolated with ExoQuick exosome precipitation solution.

Objective: This study aimed to develop a preoperative nomogram based on clinical and pathological characteristics to provide a more individualized and accurate estimation of lymph node metastasis (LNM) in patients with early-stage cervical cancer.

Methods: A total of 7,349 early-stage cervical cancer patients with pathologically confirmed between 1988 and 2015 were obtained from the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) database. All the patients were divided into training (n = 5,500) and validation (n = 1,849) cohorts randomly.

Aim: This study investigated the association between nerve conduction velocity (NCV) and bone mineral density (BMD) in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM).

Methods: This study retrospectively collected medical data of T2DM patients who underwent dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry and nerve conduction study at the Shanghai Ruijin Hospital, Shanghai, China. The primary outcome was the total hip BMD T-score.

Complete recognition of necrotic areas during small bowel tissue resection remains challenging due to the lack of optimal intraoperative aid identification techniques. This research utilizes hyperspectral imaging techniques to automatically distinguish normal and necrotic areas of small intestinal tissue. Sample data were obtained from the animal model of small intestinal tissue of eight Japanese large-eared white rabbits developed by experienced physicians.

Ethnopharmacological Relevance: Polygoni Multiflori Radix Praeparata (Zhiheshouwu) has been a Wudang Taoist medicine for tonifying the liver and kidney, resolving turbidity and reducing lipid. Emodin is one of the active anthraquinones in Zhiheshouwu. Our previous studies showed that emodin (EM) and the other anthraquinones in Zhiheshouwu extract (HSWE) exerted similar inhibitory effects on liver cancer cells in vitro.

To date, Cd contamination of cropland and crops is receiving more and more attention around the world. As a plant hormone, abscisic acid (ABA) plays an important role in Cd stress response, but its effect on plant Cd uptake and translocation varies among plant species. In some species, such as , , , , and , ABA inhibits Cd uptake and translocation, while in other species, such as and , ABA severs the opposite effect.

Age-related osteoporosis is characterized by the accumulation of senescent osteoblastic cells in bone microenvironment and significantly reduced osteogenic differentiation. Clearing of the senescent cells is helpful to improve bone formation in aged mice. Bone morphogenetic protein 9 (BMP9), a multifunctional protein produced and secreted by liver, was reported to improve osteoporosis caused by estrogen withdrawal.
