Tissue-resident monocyte-lineage cell (TRMC) are an extravascular population distinct from circulating monocytes and synovial macrophages and are critical for the development of inflammatory arthritis. However, the precise identities and origins of TRMC subpopulations remain unclear. Here, we characterize the ontogeny of TRMC, which are comprised of bone-marrow (BM)-derived and an embryonic, long-lived population.

Comprehensive analysis of myeloid reporter mice.

Macrophages are a pivotal cell type within the synovial lining and sub-lining of the joint, playing a crucial role in maintaining homeostasis of synovium. Although fate-mapping techniques have been employed to differentiate synovial macrophages from other synovial myeloid cells, no comprehensive study has yet been conducted within the mouse synovial macrophage compartment. In this study, we present, for the first time, lineage tracing results from 18 myeloid-specific fate-mapping models in mouse peripheral blood (PB) and synovial tissue.

Training Intensity Needed for Volume Linearity and Syringe D Check Quality Control.

Technologists must assure the accuracy and precision of pulmonary function equipment prior to testing patients. This study aimed to identify the sources of failure and unacceptable submission rates for spirometry volume linearity and syringe diffusing capacity of the lung for carbon monoxide (D) check quality control (QC). In addition, we explored whether the time between training and first QC submission affected overall percentage of unacceptable submissions.

Effects of Manganese Carbonate Addition on the Carbocatalytic Properties of Lignocellulosic Waste for Use in the Degradation of Acetaminophen.

A carbon-based material was synthesized using potato peels (BPP) and banana pseudo-stems (BPS), both of which were modified with manganese to produce BPP-Mn and BPS-Mn, respectively. These materials were assessed for their ability to activate peroxymonosulfate (PMS) in the presence of MnCO to degrade acetaminophen (ACE), an emerging water contaminant. The materials underwent characterization using spectroscopic, textural, and electrochemical techniques.

Clinical Staff Perceptions of Pay-for-Performance Financial Incentives for HPV Vaccine Promotion.

The purpose was to investigate clinical staff perceptions of pay-for-performance human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination financial incentives. In 2022, the authors conducted a national survey of clinical staff (N = 2527; response rate = 57%). Respondents were (1) certified to practice in the United States; (2) practiced as a physician, physician assistant, nurse practitioner, advanced practice nurse, registered nurse, licensed practical/vocational nurse, medical assistant, or certified nursing assistant; (3) worked in pediatrics, family medicine, or general medicine specialties; and (4) had a role in HPV vaccination for children ages 9 through 12 years.

Health Disparities and the Influence of Culturally Competent Care in Overall Health and Healthcare Utilization among Hispanics in a Southeastern US Community.

This study sought to assess disparities in health/healthcare utilization for Hispanic immigrant community in Greenville County, SC. The study also assessed the role of culturally competent care perceptions on health/healthcare utilization within this growing community. Secondary administrative data collected by a large health care system in the county facilitated the assessment of health/healthcare utilization disparities using multivariate regression.

Elevated Urinary Levels of Fungal and Environmental Toxins in Patients with Pancreatic Ductal Adenocarcinoma.

Background: Risk factors for pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) include tobacco/alcohol abuse, genetic predisposition, insulin resistance, and pancreatic cysts. Despite these well-established risk factors and the screening of high-risk individuals, some people still develop PDAC. This study aims to explore a potential risk factor for PDAC by investigating the association between fungal toxins (FT) and environmental toxins (ET) and the disease.

Digital Innovation to Grow Quality Care Through an Interprofessional Care Team (DIG IT) Among Underserved Patients With Hypertension.

Purpose: The impact of digital health on medically underserved patients is unclear. This study aimed to determine the early impact of a digital innovation to grow quality care through an interprofessional care team (DIG IT) on the blood pressure (BP) and 10-year atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD) risk score of medically underserved patients.

Methods: This was a 3-month, prospective intervention study that included patients aged 40 years or more with BP of 140/90 mmHg or higher who received care from DIG IT from August through December 2021.

Mucosal Healing Among Black and White Patients With Inflammatory Bowel Disease.

Introduction: Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis are characterized by chronic inflammation of the gastrointestinal tract. Mucosal healing (MH) is a therapeutic goal in patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). Current data suggest that Black patients may experience worse clinical outcomes than White patients with IBD.

Cutaneous Metastasis Following a Six-Year History of Bladder Urothelial Carcinoma in Situ: A Case Report.

Bladder cancer with cutaneous metastasis is a rare manifestation of the advanced stage of the disease. It can result from direct invasion, lymphatic or hematogenous spread, or iatrogenic implantation. We present a case of a 67-year-old patient initially diagnosed with urothelial carcinoma (UC) in situ of the bladder, who underwent transurethral resection of bladder tumor, along with induction and maintenance Bacillus Calmette-Guerin immunotherapy.

A Learning Curve for First-Trimester Anatomy Ultrasound in Obese Patients.

Objectives: A recent randomized controlled trial of first-trimester anatomy ultrasound in obese women found some advantages to using this technique in this population, but some aspects of feasibility were not clear, such as whether first-trimester ultrasound can be brought outside of a research setting. The learning curve for first-trimester anatomy has been described in the general population, but a learning curve has not been described for this technique in obese patients. This study sought to describe a learning curve for first-trimester anatomy ultrasounds in obese patients with an operator familiar with the basics of first-trimester imaging.

Recurrence of Drug-Induced Lupus Secondary to Vedolizumab Use in a Patient With Crohn's Disease.

Drug-induced lupus is an autoimmune phenomenon characterized by the development of systemic lupus erythematosus-like clinical features after drug exposure. The entity is a clinical diagnosis. Evaluation consists of recognizing systemic lupus erythematosus-like features, identifying an appropriate causative agent, observing elevations of characteristic autoantibodies, and obtaining positive response with drug discontinuation.

Micronutrient deficiencies may develop as a long-term complication of bariatric surgery due to alteration of gut anatomy and disruption of normal gut absorption. Inadequate repletion of essential vitamin and mineral deficiencies can lead to multisystem dysfunction. We present a case of a woman in her 50s, with a history of Roux-en-Y gastric bypass over 10 years ago, who presented with generalised weakness and a diffuse desquamating rash.

Clinical presentation and neurovascular manifestations of cardiac myxomas and papillary fibroelastomas: a retrospective single-institution cohort study.

Background: Primary cardiac tumors are often benign and commonly present as cardiac myxomas (CMs) or papillary fibroelastomas (CPFEs). There is a paucity of prognostic indicators for tumor burden or potential for embolic cerebrovascular events (CVEs). This study was performed to address these gaps.

Multisite Assessment of Optical Genome Mapping for Analysis of Structural Variants in Constitutional Postnatal Cases.

This study compares optical genome mapping (OGM) performed at multiple sites with current standard-of-care (SOC) methods used in clinical cytogenetics. This study included 50 negative controls and 359 samples from individuals (patients) with suspected genetic conditions referred for cytogenetic testing. OGM was performed using the Saphyr system and Bionano Access software version 1.

Recurrent small bowel obstruction as a rare presentation of undiagnosed sarcoidosis.

Sarcoidosis is an immune-mediated inflammatory disorder with unknown aetiology that is marked by non-caseating granulomas in affected organs. Pulmonary sarcoidosis is the most common manifestation, but gastrointestinal involvement, particularly in the small bowel, is exceedingly rare. While symptom-driven treatment guidelines that are steroid based are well established for pulmonary and few extrapulmonary manifestations (ie, cardiac, neurologic, renal), gastrointestinal sarcoidosis treatment is largely extrapolation with optimal management under investigation.
