Background: Sickle cell disease (SCD) is a diverse group of blood disorders with significant global disease burden. Contemporary interest in the underlying inflammatory paradigm of SCD has emphasized the role of the neutrophil-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) as a prognostic inflammatory marker.

Methods: We retrospectively reviewed 268 hospitalized patients with SCDs of different genotypes (HbSS, HbSβ thalassemia, HbSβ thalassemia, and HbSC), totaling 3329 hospital admissions over a 10-year period.

Article Synopsis
  • * The analysis involved a review of data from patients diagnosed with these tumors from 2001 to 2021, revealing that certain thymoma subtypes (B2 and B3) are associated with younger age, larger tumor size, and higher recurrence rates.
  • * Notable findings included better overall survival for males compared to females with thymomas and poorer 5-year survival for thymic carcinoma patients, emphasizing the importance of tumor stage and resectability as prognostic factors.*
